Arrow Dallas talks Carter trade with Nets

The San Antonio Spurs are also pursuing Carter and have discussed a proposal that would include Roger Mason, Bruce Bowen and Fabricio Oberto.

For the Nets, dealing Carter would be a financial move.

Maybe the Nets will look at last year's trade with Dallas and see the success they've had with Devin Harris. Josh Howard would be a solid small forward to pair with Devin Harris, and Jerry Stackhouse would be a reliable veteran backup (or starter at the 2?). Both's contracts expire by 2010, so the Nets can still make a play at the big-name free agents. I like the deal, but Dallas should be hesitant of trading away another good young player for an aging star.

The Spurs' offer is intriguing, but there isn't anyone in that group that can make the impact that Howard and Stack could over a two-year period. Oberto would likely rot on the bench, and Bowen would only be a fixture in Jersey for a year, then he'd retire. Mason is a solid role player, but Jersey's offense would take a severe blow by not receiving a good #2 scorer in return. Good for the Spurs, bad for the Nets. Dallas's offer's the one they should go for.

Dude, Stackhouse is finished he has been for a good year or so now. The guy has played in just 8 games this year. The only reason to include him is to balance out the salaries because Carter makes so much more than Howard does.

Didn't the Nets cut Stackhouse after getting him in the Harris deal last year?

It would be a bad deal for the Spurs. Carter is a bad fit for a team like the Spurs and they would be sapping their bench of the depth it enjoys now.
Can I get an Amen from the bobbleheads?

Good Lord that's a terrible deal for the Spurs.

Your health cost you the title last year more than anything. There's still only one true contender with rings (Boston). Live off that fact and battle them as is in June.
