Default New NFL Coaches

I figured I'd just start a thread regarding all the new coaching jobs instead of just a thread on that person specifically (Martz, McCarthy, Edwards, Mangini, etc).
Anywho, looks like Tice found work!
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5298194
I think this will be a good move for Tice since the they played together w/ the Vikes in the early 1990s.
Quote:
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Jaguars have interviewed former Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Tice for an assistant coaching position, and he reportedly is set to join coach Jack Del Rio's staff.
The Star Tribune in Minneapolis reported Tuesday on its Web site that Tice told the newspaper he agreed to take a position with Jacksonville. He would not say what his title will be, pending an announcement from the team.

Blah, SC > FOX. Here is Brad's take:

Anyway, funny how times change for Mike Sherman. From Packers head coach to considering being a Texans assistant. Ouch!

I like his take on Mangini. I agree with him, I would much rather see them take a risk with Mangini then re-use someone like Martz.

Damn you Oakland. Get your act together. Aiiiie. It sucks to be a Raiders fan.

Art Shell as head coach? What year is this? Is the calendar going backward or forward?

Should be a smooth transition-- no discipline whatsoever, just like the Norv era

I really thought Whisenhunt would take the Oakland job. But now that Bobby Petrino has even come out to publicly pass on the position, it's not looking good.

Martz in Detroit is intriguing. Maybe he can develop Joey Harrington before he's forced to join Akili Smith, Ryan Leaf, and Tim Couch (as much as it pains me to say it on that last one, a Kentucky alum).

I think it will backfire, though. Martz will end up being power hungry and alienate his superiors. If there's one positive thing, maybe it could get Millen fired (on second thought, Millen seems to have more job security than Queen Elizabeth).

Harrington is as good as done in Detroit. The starting QB in Detroit by the beginning of 2007 will be Orlovsky or a trash heap QB, no way Harrington works well under Martz. Also, Mike Williams will have to learn to play TE and Roy and Charles will have to learn to run routes in a hurry

Actually, there seems to be a prevailing opinion that the Lions are looking hard at taking Cutler with their top pick. Mike Williams is a favorite of Marinelli's and will get every opportunity to win the starting job opposite Roy Williams.

Martz will have only one year to try and "rehabilitate" Harrington, because he will be a head coach somewhere else in 2007 (and I can vividly imagine where!).

I honestly don't get why you have this obsession with Mike Martz coaching the Eagles. What did he do in STL after Vermeil left that makes such an attractive head coaching candidate other than coattail his way into a Super Bowl? The Rams went slowly downhill as Martz' tenure endured. Martz is this era's Buddy Ryan only reversed. He is great at assembling an offense but does not know jack about putting together a defense and it showed after Vermeil left. Which is why he never got any serious feelers about being a head coach next year.

If I were the owner of any team I wouldn't even seriously consider him as a head coach. He is a great co-ordinator but not a good head man.

What would make Mike Martz a logical successor to Andy Reid is the same thing that made Franklin D. Roosevelt and his New Deal the logical successor to the Three Musketeers of Social Darwinism (Harding, Coolidge and Hoover) who preceeded him in the White House: Martz, as the diametrical opposite of Reid philosophically, would be the perfect antidote for the poison that will have killed the Eagles (unless of course the leopards suddenly change their spots and they get with the program this spring, although personally I don't see it happening).

And just think of the possibilities: They could pair Donovan McNabb with Joe Theismann in the broadcast booth in 2007 - since by then the two of them could very well have something very real in common, if you get where I'm coming from!

The Jets have hired ex-LB Brian Cox as defensive line assistant and Michigan defensive coordinator Jim Herrman as linebackers coach. I like the young guys that are being brought in so far.
