Default Are HDTVs hurting NFL attendance?

Even though it's by far the biggest pro sports league in America, the NFL is not immune to the recession: SPORTSbyBROOKS NFL Braces For Biggest Attendance Drop Since ‘98

Or is it that people prefer to watch at home? With big-screen HDTVs down in price and things like the Red Zone Channel and Sunday Ticket, why even go to the game? I can follow it closer on TV in the comfort of my own home. Surround sound, the whole deal. Anyone else agree?

I'll go to 2 or 3 games a year. But watching from the local watering hole or my living room is more my style now. Don't forget FF also makes people stay at home on Sundays.

I don't think they hurt the NFL, the fact that many NFL teams face blackouts if nobody shows up means that people will continue to show up. Naw Orleans sold out every game last year, trust me, I tried to get tickets to ONE...JUST ONE.

It depends on the market mostly. Teams like the Eagles, Giants, Jets, Cowboys, Bears, Packers, Redksins, Steelers, etc. are always going to sell out no matter what. The markets that don't have a strong tradition or fanbase like Jacksonville, Carolina, Atlanta, etc. are always going to struggle with ticket sales the years they don't field a strong team.

It is a bigger problem now because of the economy and local corporations not willing to shell out money for tickets and luxury boxes.
