Cool Will Atlanta Retake the N.L. East

The Atlanta Braves are on their way back up again. The Philadelphia Phillies have dominated the top spot just about the whole year, but they find themselves in a terrible slump. Their play against the American league teams this past week have not been pretty. The Braves are finally hitting and getting some great pitching performances from Odalis Perez and 36 year old John Burkett. To be honest Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine have struggled abit. Closer John Rocker has done a fine job out of the bullpen. Does anybody believe the Braves won't win the N.L. East? Do you believe the N.L. East is the weakest division in baseball? Are the Mets in for a long season and will manager Bobby Valentine last the entire season if they continue to struggle? Are the Phillies really a good team or will they slide for the rest of the season? Montreal is Montreal. Can the Florida Marlins contend this year with slugger Cliff Floyd and catcher Charles Johnson leading the charge. What about pitchers Ryan Dempster, Brad Penny and A.J. Burnett? Are they the next group of dominating pitchers in the N.L.? See you at the game.

I think they will, they aren't far behind and the Phillies are struggling.

I agree. The Braves are playing better now. They should be able to retake their place at the head of the division.

...two days ago, the Braves had a chance to set a team record with 10 wins on a single road trip... but... they were 9-2 going into the final game of a 3-game set versus Toronto, and they got ROMPED!!!!... 12-5!!!... 2 ejections (Rocker & their manager)...

anyway... just thought I'd throw that in

I vote for Maddux and I say that they Braves can take the NL East, it will be tough and I would personally like to see the Phillies do something, but maybe thats just me.

They have to. Any team that is swept by the Devil Rays (Phillies) in June does not deserve any kind of playoff berth.

I don't think Greg Maddux has struggled. Yes, Glavine has been horrible at times, due to a combination of the umpires and his injuries. He's a fighter, but would probably be helped with a visit to the DL. As for Maddux, he's dominant right now. The only thing holding him back is run support with only 3 runs a game, no wonder he's only won 5 games. But his ERA is a miniscule 2.24, second only to Pedro's 2.01. A.J. Burnett and Omar Daal have also both been great. And I like Tony Armas, Jr.'s stuff. He could be a real good one.
