Cool Anthony's Week 13 Picks

Last week: 7-8-1. Season totals: 80-89-7, Pct. .474. Best Bets: 15-20-1, Pct. .431.

Home team in capital letters; point spreads (opening line) in parentheses after underdog team; selections with point spreads in bold.

PHILADELPHIA 31, Houston 28 (+8) - The injuries in their secondary finally caught up with the Eagles last week, when cracks also began to show in Michael Vick's facade. The Texans are 6-3 against the spread in cold weather since 2005 and can be trusted to keep this one close.

24, Washington 10 (+7 1/2) - The Giants survived their scare last week to edge the Jaguars - and the Redskins haven't exactly been scaring them of late, losing the last four to them by a combined 107-43. Nor is Washington particularly scary on artificial turf: Eight straight losses, covering only twice.

MIAMI 20, Cleveland 17 (+4 1/2) - One of only two games this week in which neither team is in realistic playoff contention. The Browns have covered in all three meetings so far, all three of which have also gone to the home team straight up. So that means Miami wins here, but Cleveland covers - right?

New Orleans 17, CINCINNATI 13 (+7) - The Saints need to be very careful this week, as their offense is not built for cold weather - and dating back to 1997, they've won only six of 16 therein. Take the points.

Chicago 24, DETROIT 0 (+3) - There is no room for letdowns or "trap games" for the Bears in this division game, as the tie-breakers could very well decide the NFC North unless Chicago wins at Lambeau in the season finale. The Lions are now reduced to Drew Stanton at QB due to Shaun Hill's broken finger, so I'm looking for Stanton to reprise Rusty Smith's role from last week - and Stanton will be taking on a much better defense than Smith did.

Jacksonville 17 (+3), TENNESSEE 14 - Teams getting shut out one week can't possibly run their record the following week to 4-0 this year after having gone 3-16 in 2007 through '09, can they?

GREEN BAY 31, San Francisco 10 (+9 1/2) - I sincerely hope the 49ers enjoyed the five-and-a-half-day extension of their playoff delusions Monday night's win earned them: San Francisco has has lost seven straight in Green Bay, also seven in a row to Green Bay regardless of where played, and is 4-10-2 against the line since 1998 as a visitor in cold weather. Blowout.

MINNESOTA 20, Buffalo 10 (+6 1/2) - The week's other essentially meaningless game for both teams. If Jason Garrett can win his first two games, then why can't Leslie Frazier win his first two? (And they both overcame the cold-weather angle to win their first one). Bills are 5-11 pointwise in domes since 1999.

KANSAS CITY 42, Denver 14 (+7) - The only question here is whether Josh McDaniels - who must be Pat Bowlen's long-lost son or something (how else to explain his apparently ironclad job security?) - will shake Todd Haley's hand after this determinedly one-sided affair.

SAN DIEGO 34, Oakland 10 (+13) - Not even in The Land Of Oz do people come and go so quickly as starting quarterbacks do in The Land Of Oak - and wouldn't it be quite the story if the Raiders end up not breaking their "7-11 jinx" (seven consecutive seasons with eleven or more losses) after having been 5-4?

Atlanta 24, TAMPA BAY 17 (+3) - Josh Freeman ran his career spread record on the road to 10-1 with his cover last week at Baltimore. But Freeman is 3-5-1 against the line at home, and that includes 38-13 and 31-6 losses in his two prior outings this year hosting teams with winning records.

INDIANAPOLIS 21, Dallas 14 (+5) - Can't see Peyton Manning throwing three or more interceptions three games in a row - and he's taking a huge drop in class here, drawing Jon Kitna after going head-to-head with Philip Rivers and Tom Brady.

SEATTLE 27, Carolina 10 (+6) - Look for the Panthers to go back to sleep after waking up last week and nearly beating Cleveland. The home team is 4-0 straight up and 3-1 against the line in the lifetime series, while Carolina is 2-11 straight up and 4-9 against the line since 2008 as a visitor on the carpet.

St. Louis 27, ARIZONA 21 (+3) - If it seems like quite a while since the Rams have been road favorites, maybe that's because it has been quite a while: Not since November 18, 2007 to be exact. True, the Cards did win the first meeting in St. Louis, on opening day - but at the risk of cracking a truly bad joke, it's impossible to take anything they do seriously after what that camera caught on their sideline during Monday night's game, in which they also appeared to have just plain quit.

BALTIMORE 24, Pittsburgh 14 (+3) - But since the Ravens are much more serious than Arizona, I won't go against them hosting a team they've already defeated on the road.

23, N.Y. Jets 17 (+3 1/2) - Those three and a half points serve as low-hanging fruit indeed, but don't be tempted. The Pats won't blow the Jets away, but they will win - something Tom Brady has done in 13 of his 14 post-ACL surgery home games.
