Default Besides LT, who is the best HB in the NFL?

Assuming that LaDainian Tomlinson is simply the best, I'm interested to know who you all view as the second best HB in the NFL.

If we are just going by this season, the easilly L. Johnson. Maybe Rudi Johnson. But if we are just talking overall, Shaun Alexander is right there. It's tough right now, seems like there aren't a lot of great running backs right now. Many good and average backs, but not a lot of great ones.

Of course, I dunno that there has ever been a time when there were more than 4 "great" backs in the league at the same time.

Hmm, Rudi Johnson based on this season? Rudi's a nice a back but he has been rather underwhelming this season.

Fumbling issues aside Frank Gore is right there considering the Niners have no real passing game to speak of, but he loses points for coughing the ball up too much.

Tiki is on pace for another 2,000 yards from scrimmage this year even if he does only have one touchdown.

Steven Jackson is a rising star in STL.

LJ has superior yards and TDs to everyone except LT, so hegets my vote.
That's probably not surprising to you all considering my screenname and avatar, but I'minterested to know how LJ is not the second best.

I guess I can't answer that one, Chiefs, since I think it's LJ also. He's sneaky good to the point that some seem to forget about him in these type convos.

Yeah , I'll take LJ also but, I also agree with doublee on the Jackson comment. Granted had I not had him on a couple of my fantasy teams this year I probably would even bring up his name. He's like a bigger version of Westbrook.

Jackson is somethin' else but he needs to start stackin' up games with consistent play. LJ is the real deal...

Larry Johnson gets my vote. He's the prototypical downhill back that punishes defenders. I've always admired the backs that refuse to run out of bounds, a la Walter Payton.

Steven Jackson looks solid as well and is an exceptional pass catcher out of the backfield - another hard runner.

I'm curious to see how Laurence Maroney and Maurice Jones-Drew develop over the next few seasons.

True, but it is tough to do so when you are running behind an injury riddled line like the Rams have this year.

D'oh. I knew after I typed that you were gonna call me on Tiki. Just too lazy to edit.

Yeah, I agree Gore is looking really impressive this year. Wonder if he can pull a Tiki and get his fumblitis under control?

Speaking of San Fran, isn't it about time for someone to say "hey, look at what a job Norv Turner has done in San Fran! Let's hire him as a HC!"

I don't know hasn't Norv already proven that he is not head coaching material?

Yeah, but that's what I mean. He bombs as a head coach, but then shows what a great O.C. he can be, and some owner thinks "I need that guy coaching my team." No, you need that guy calling your plays. Him coaching your team is a baaaaaaaad thing.

Well, the NFL is good at hiring the same mediocre coaches over and over again.

Larry Johnson gets the nod as 2nd in my opinion. But after that, give me Willie Parker baby. If his o-line actually blocks, Parker changes field position as well if not better than any back in the league. Plus, he is my favorite player.

Willie! Willie! Willie  Willie

Don't get me wrong, I think Jackson has what it takes to be right up there, just that without the support, he's not shown enough yet. He's a brute...
