Natasha Bedingfield - "I Wanna Have Your Babies"

Trust me it would scare you...
...If you knew what was going on in my brain
Trust me it would scare you...
...That I picked out the church, all the schools, all the names
If you knew it was all about you...
...Every wish, every candle, every coin in a fountain
Trust me it would scare you

Toby,

I've noticed you like a lot of female artists.... Are you "sensitive" and in touch with your feminine side

-----------

Wilco - I'm the man who loves you

Rodney Atkins - "These Are My People"

Well, we grew up down by the railroad tracks shooting B.B.s at old beer cans
Chocking on the smoke from a lucky strike somebody lifted off of his old man
We were football flunkies, southern rock junkies, cranking up the stereos
Singing loud and proud to "Gimmie Three Steps," "Simple Man," and "Curtis Low"
We were big, you know

Got some discount knowledge at the junior college where we majored in beer and girls
It was all real funny until we ran out of money and they threw us out into the world
Yeah, the kids that thought they'd run this town ain't running much of anything
Just loving and laughing and busting our asses, and we all call it all living the dream

These are my people
This is where I come from
Were giving this life everything we got and then some
It ain't always pretty, but its real
It's the way we were made, wouldn't have it any other way
These are my people

Well, we take it all week on the chin with a grin until we make it to a Friday night
And it's church league softball, holler about a bad call, preacher breaking up the fight
Then later on at the Green Light Tavern, well everybody's gathered as friends
And the beers a pouring until Monday Morning and we start it all over again

These are my people
This is where I come from
Were giving this life everything we got and then some
It ain't always pretty, but its real
It's the way we were made, wouldn't have it any other way
These are my people

I'll only touch a feminine's side, if she'll touch mine!

Speaking of good female artists...

Alicia Keys - "Unbreakable"

We could fight like Ike and Tina, or give back like Bill and Camille
Be rich like Oprah and Steadman, or instead, struggle like Flow and James Evans
Because he ain't no different from you, and she ain't no different from me
So, we got to live our dreams like the people on TV

We gotta stay tuned, because there's more to see (Unbreakable)
Through the technical difficulties (Unbreakable)
We might have to take a break, but ya'll know we'll be back next week
I'm singing this love is unbreakable

See, we could act out like Will and Jada, or like Kimora and Russell making paper
All in the family like the Jacksons, and have enough kids to make a band like Joe and Katherine

She ain't no different from me, and he ain't no different from you
So, we got to live our dreams like the people on TV
We gotta stay tuned, because there's more to see (Unbreakable)
Through the technical difficulties (Unbreakable)
We might have to take a break, but ya'll know we'll be back next week
I'm singing this love is unbreakable

Female... how about

Feist

You probably recognize the song from an iPod commercial.

Not a huge Feist fan (I like the lyrics, but the production work and vocal quality is very poor), but I do like her song My Moon My Man.

I also really like Marie Digby's acoustic cover of Rihanna's Umbrella.

Toby,

I'm sorry, but she has a great voice. And what is wrong with the production?

Leslie Feist could really showcase her talent if her music had a more simplistic and raw approach like much of the music or Corinne Bailey Rae (or even like Feist showcases on the song "So Sorry"). I wish her music was less catchy and more matter-of-fact.

That's a fair assessment.

I think I've asked you this, but I don't remember: are you a Wilco fan?

I have only heard a song or two. My friend says their Sky Blue Sky album is tremendous, though.

Yes, it is. You should realy check it out.

If you get it, make sure you listen to it all the way through, twice, before you make any judgements...

They are one of those bands that doesn't hit you right away... Once you "get it" though, you will love it.

Eric B. and Rakim - "Microphone Fiend"

I was a fiend before I became a teen
I melted microphones instead of cones of ice cream
Music orientated, so when hip-hop was originated
Fitted like pieces of puzzles, complicated
'Cause I grabbed the mic and try to say "Yes y'all"
They tried to take it, and say that I'm too small
Cool, 'Cause I don't get upset
I kick a hole in the speaker, pull the plug, then I jet
Back to the lab, without a mic to grab
So then I add all the rhymes I had
One after the other one, then I make another one
To dis the opposite then ask if the brother's done
I get a craving like I fiend for nicotine
But I don't need a cigarette, know what I mean?
I'm raging, ripping up the stage and don't it sound amazing
'Cause every rhyme is made and thought of,
'Cuz it's sort of an addiction, magnetized by the mixing
Vocals, vocabulary, your verses, you're stuck in
The mic is a drano, volcanoes erupting
Rhymes overflowing, gradually growing
Everything is written in code, so it can coincide
My thoughts to guide, 48 tracks to slide
The invincible, microphone fiend Rakim
Spread the word, 'cause I'm an E-F-F-E-C-T
A smooth operator operating correctly

Heard a great acoustic cover of RHCP's "soul to squeeze" the other night in a bar.

My favorite artists to listen to acoustically are either Jason Mraz or Rob Thomas.

Jason Mraz - "Wordplay"

I've been all around the world, I've been a new sensation
But it doesn't really matter in my generation
The sophomore slump is an uphill battle
And someone said that ain't my scene
'Cause they need a new song
Like a new religion
Music for the television
I can't do the long division
Someone do the math
For the record label puts me on the shelf up in the freezer
Got to find another way to live the life of leisure
So I drop my top
Mix and I mingle
Is everybody ready for my single and it goes...

La La La La
Now listen closely to the verse I lay
It's all about the wordplay
The wonderful thing it does
Because, because, I am the wizard of ooh's and ah's and fa-la-la's
Yeah the Mister A to Z, they say I'm all about the wordplay

Rob Thomas - "3 A.M. (Piano Acoustic)"

She's got a little bit of something, God it's better than nothing
And in her color portrait world she believes that she's got it all
She swears the moon don't hang quite as high as it used to
And she only sleeps when it's raining
And she screams and her voice is straining

She says baby
It's 3 am I must be lonely
When she says baby
Well I can't help but be scared of it all sometimes
Says the rain's gonna wash away I believe it
