It seems that the hole for the first round isn't nearly as big as the one in the Finals last year.

eh, giving the Canes any kind of respect wont happen till they do beat the Devils this year and get just as far next year. One year wonders happen all the time. I wouldnt be surprised if these Canes lived up to that.

The Canes only got there because they were division winners; they should be somewhere in 10th.

Well, the Devils won 4-0 yesterday on home ice. . . . just as I predicted, they came out strong in East Rutherford. I think they'll sweep the next 3 games.

The Devils were down a bit, then came back strong at home, which is a good sign for them. They'll sweep the rest of the series.

Go Jersey! Looks like they've got more game up their sleeves. I hope they can rally and win this series.

They have the ability for sure; they just need to get it to come out.

Ya. Last I heard they scored early in the first, but CBC hasn't given any more updates on that one since then. I only get 1 or 2 games of this ENTIRE SERIES so I can't comment much on it!

Just as I said after Game 2, the Devils swept their two games back home. I think they'll win the next 2 also.

First things first -- welcome to the SCMB, Canesknowhockey!! :wavey:

That was a great goal by Vasicek in OT, but hey, what I want to know is what was the reason for putting Weekes in? Maurice just wanted to shake things up or what? Whatever it was, it worked. It was a great game from the highlights I saw.

If anything, I want Carolina to lose so I can see a MON/TOR match-up in the second round .....I'm not counting the Devils out, though. If they win Saturday at home, the series is up for grabs in Game 7

Weekes has been in the last two games as a better alternative to the "failing" Irbe, and it does indeed look like Maurice wants to shake things up but it goes to show that his confidence is weak on who to choose as a number one. NO team can count on playoff victories with a duo at the goaltending helm, it one man or the other, not both. Im bashing the hurricanes? fine, here's one at the Devils: they cant score when they need to. they seem to do a fine job piling on goals during shutouts, but when they're in dire need of a goal, it never comes. and whether its a weak man in goal or not, that could ruin any team....but im keeping my confidence in Jersey and if they can win at home, which they have done every home game this series (so too have the Canes), forcing the game 7 decision for maurice to decide which goalie will start will put too much pressure on the fragile, rather untested goalies enough for the Devils to barely sneak through this one.

That's true, very true. Look at Ottawa 4 years ago -- tried the "dual system" with Tugnutt and Rhodes. It worked just fine in the regular season, but in the playoffs, they failed miserably.
