Default Sports Central Chess Tournament

It seems like we have a few people who play chess here. I am not good at it, but I would be down for a tournament if we could get enough people together.

I would organize it and run it to, but we are going to need at least 8 people.

If we can get 8 people, I will get it together and organize, so let me know.

The easiest way to do it IMO would be to do it through Yahoo! Games.

Yeah, I agree w/Ken.

And I would be down for it, even though I suck mightily.

Alright, we have 6 so far. All we need is two more.

I am thinking we should set up two divisions and have a regular season where each player plays everyone in there each division. That only means that each player plays 3 regular season games.

Then we set up a play-off bracket, where each 4 players in each division are set up one side according to their regular season record.

I will start hammering out the details once we get 7.

It would be fun and the maximum number of games you would play is 6, if you made it to the championship, which isn't too many, but enough to have a fun tournament.

What do you guys thing?

All we need is two more people!

If you are reading this thread and haven't already said you would join, please do if you know how to play chess. It doesn't sound like any of us are too great, so just join and have a good time.

Here is what the playoffs will like. Your seed will be based on your record in the regular season. Players will be randomly placed in each division and the season games will be be determined by a drawing of names. In case of a tie in record in the same division once the 3 week/game season is over, the seeds will be determined by where the tied players were drawn in the original drawing for divisions.

Everyone will play one game a week during the season. This gives everyone a week to find time and play the other person and then report the winner.

Once the three week season is over, the playoffs will start and and everyone will play one game a week until we have a champion.

Here is what the playoff bracket will look like:

Alright, we just need one more. I will start putting together the official rules and stuff. I will start a new thread once we have 8 that have committed, stating all of the official rules.
