Default Shaq Attack

excerpt:

Shaq takes shots at Kobe in rap

Just when you thought the war of words between Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant had finally been laid to rest, the battle now appears to be back on.

In a video released on TMZ.com, O'Neal is shown doing a freestyle rap in a New York City nightclub in which he takes several shots at his former Lakers teammate.

"Kobe (expletive), tell me how my a** tastes," went the chorus, which O'Neal repeatedly encouraged the crowd to sing along with him.

O'Neal also referenced Bryant's inability to lead the Lakers past the Celtics in the 2008 NBA Finals: "Last week Kobe couldn't do without me."

The Celtics downed the Lakers in six games, keeping Bryant from claiming his first title since L.A. traded O'Neal to the Miami Heat following the 2003-04 season. O'Neal, meanwhile, has won a championship without Bryant, helping the Heat to the 2006 NBA title.

More old wounds resurfaced during the rap, as well. O'Neal appeared to blame Bryant for the breakup of his marriage, singing, "I'm a horse. Kobe ratted me out. That's why I'm getting divorced."

During his 2004 rape investigation, Bryant alleged that O'Neal had paid up to $1 million in hush money to various women.

O'Neal attempted to defuse the controversy, releasing a statement to ESPN's Stephen A. Smith in which he implored critics not to "make something out of nothing."

"I was freestyling. That's all. It was all done in fun. Nothing serious whatsoever. That is what MC's do. They freestyle when called upon. I'm totally cool with Kobe. No issue at all."

O'Neal, who has recorded seven albums, also said he is "the difference between first and last place" and even took a jab at former New York Knicks center Patrick Ewing's lack of championship rings.

Stiil, or not so still, waters run deep apparently.

& I wouldn't rap so much about Ewing. If he was around for all those years with MJ, he'd probably be ringless too.

Shaq is just one helluva funny guy. The guy's just having fun. Coming from a divorce and a dismal season and disappointing playoff run with Phoenix, give the guy some slack! He's just trying to enjoy the offseason.

But I agree with Shaq, still hasn't proven it yet that he can win a championship without the Big Aristotle.

Dude, what is Shaq's problem? Why is he rapping about Kobe tossing his salad. The most offensive part of that whole rap was how godawful it is.

Shaq gets slapped by sheriff for Kobe rap

PHOENIX (AP) - Shaquille O'Neal will lose his special deputy's badge in Maricopa County because of language he used in a rap video that mocks former teammate Kobe Bryant.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said the Phoenix Suns center's use of a racially derogatory word and other foul language left him no choice. Arpaio made Shaq a special deputy in 2006 and promoted him to colonel of his largely ceremonial posse later that year.

"I want his two badges back," Arpaio told The Associated Press on Tuesday. "Because if any one of my deputies did something like this, they're fired. I don't condone this type of racial conduct."...

Arpaio, who describes himself as "America's Toughest Sheriff" and is best known for feeding jail inmates green bologna, clothing them in pink underwear, and making them work on chain gangs, said he didn't expect his actions would teach Shaq a lesson. But he hoped he learns that as a role model who wants to someday be a full-time sheriff, he needs to know his words matter.

"Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I don't think that either conduct should be out there publicly, even if media wasn't there," Arpaio said.

O'Neal previously served as a reserve officer with the Miami Beach Police Department while playing for the Miami Heat. He also volunteered with the Tempe Police Department after being traded to the Suns in February.

Bryant'll get a laugh out of this one. Shaq loved the idea of playing Barney Fife.

Yeah, Kobe gets a little revenge.

All I know is the post-divorce ring count is still in Shaq's favor and until that changes it's all gravy.

Typically, I like Shaq, but this is just annoying, distasteful, and immature. I'm glad Kobe is taking the high road.
