Default What Does Your Team Need?

After reading people's thoughts on what's to become of the Yankees, I figured I'd start this thread early.
My team is the Twins. They need middle-infielders and more pitching. Names that have been thrown around are Omar Vizquel and Barry Larkin as middle infielders and the usual suspects as pitchers. What they really need to do is re-sign Radke and Santana to long-term deals and find another guy like Kenny Rogers was for them in 2003.
What do the rest of your teams need?

Well, the Cards will have to decide if they want to re-sign Morris, Carpenter, Womack, and Renteria.

Pujols and Rolen are locked up long-term and Walker and Sanders are signed through next year and I think Edmonds is as well.

I suspect that Womack is let go and Hector Luna becomes the everyday 2B. From what I understand the team is pretty high on him. They have to keep Renteria he is one of the best SS in the game and would be tough to replace. I think they may let Morris go and hang on to Carpenter as he will likely be cheaper to re-sign.

Like everyone else I am sure the Cards will be beating the bushes looking to fill out the pitching staff this winter.

I'll tell you what the A's need: some money and a playoff series win. Help in the bullpen would be nice, too.

The Devil Rays need to sign all of this amazing young talent to long term deals. Then actually spend some money on FA's. Finally, draft one more good player with the high pick they have in the next draft.

Hitting, pitching, and fielding. After that, maybe some money. I think we'll be okay then.

Seriously, I think the Royals just really need a solid group of young pitching that can stay on the team longer than 2 or 3 years. Maybe an offensive HR threat would be good.....hmm...someone like Carlos Beltran......

To re-sign Sexson at 1st and get a third quality starter in the rotation. If they achieve that, then Johnson might still be around come spring training next year.

I think we've had this thread each of the past few years.

For my answer, see what I've written each of the past few years. Still hasn't been addressed.

My team needs a new owner, fortunately, it seems it's actually happening.

Here's what I would like to see:

C- Jorge Posada
1B- Tino Martinez
2B- Pokey Reese
3B- Alex Rodriguez
SS- Derek Jeter
LF- Hideki Matsui
CF- Carlos Beltran
RF- Gary Sheffield
DH- Bernie Williams

SP- Randy Johnson
SP- Mike Mussina
SP- Carl Pavano
SP- Matt Clement
SP- Orlando Hernandez

LR- Tanyon Sturtze
RP- Mike Myers
RP- Steve Karsay
RP- Paul Quantrill
SU- Tom Gordon
CL- Mariano Rivera

C- John Flaherty
1B- John Olerud
IF- Miguel Cairo
OF- Ruben Sierra
OF- Bubba Crosby

Vazquez, Navarro, Cano and Henn to Arizona for Johnson
Brown retires, is traded or released
Lieber isn't re-signed
Giambi is released or has his contract void

Get some character guys in there as well as some stars. The rotation needs help badly and at least one of following will be a Yankee in 2005: Carl Pavano, Matt Clement and Matt Morris.

Jeez, do you want some cake with that also

That's what I based it on because it's true and I won't attempt to deny it; the Yankees can get anybody they want. Given a set amount to spend I could put together a team with more heart than the one put with 180 million. That was pathetic and by some of the signings I would make you can see I would attempt to change that.

The Yankees need pitching but also some guys with character to play roles and compliment the stars, not be the stars. That's where guys Tino Martinez and Pokey Reese would fit in. Martinez is a proven winner in New York, a fan favorite and relatively inexpensive. Pokey Reese is a gold glove 2B with speed who would fit in perfectly at the bottom of the line up and now has World Series experience. The bullpen needs a lefty specialist and perhaps a different MR but I think Karsay can be counted on. Mike Myers would be an inexpensive fix. The rotation needs to be focused on the most. It is ultimately what allowed Boston to get back in the race at the end and win the ALCS. Johnson would be the rock that was missing all of last season. Pavano and Clement are both around 30 and could step up as rocks in the rotation once Mussina and Johnson retire. The bench doesn't change much except Cairo replaces Wilson as the utility infielder. The line up had two question marks for sure at the end of the season. Now with Giambi's future very much up in the air I can't see relying on him to be an everyday player or even a Yankee next season. Martinez isn't cheap for what he brings to the table but again, he adds character and a familar face to the line up. Don't fool yourself, Carlos Beltran will either be a Yankee or an Astro next season. I have the newspaper article from back in April to back up my claim. The Yankees will go hard after Beltran since after him the class of CF free agents is very thin.

The Yankees have character guys, they just have aging, shaky starting pitching and pretty much a completely depleted minor league system.

Cleveland needs a closer, a number two guy, and thats pretty much all we can afford, if that.

My Team is the Astros. All the Astros need is to keep healthy, we did great considering SS Adam Everett was hurt and Petite and Miller were hurt. If we retain all starters next year, look at our 5 man pitching rotation: Clemens Oswalt Petite Miller and Backe and Lidge as a closer. That is perhaps the strongest starting rotation in the major leagues. Hopefully Biggio and Bagwell can give their all one more season and we can resign beltran. If Beltran Resigns and we retain all starters and get everyone healthy, then we could easily make it to the world series.
