Default McCombs vs Moss......son of a -------

Sid is our "Superfan," like the Jets fireman or the black guy with the spiked shoulder pads in the Raiders Black Hole. If you ever watched a Vikings home game and saw Randy jump into the stands, that was Sid who caught him. The huge dude, all painted up, looking like a pro wrestler.

Anyways, take this for what it's worth. I got it from a fellow poster Vikings forum and know that Randy and Sid were friends off the field and knew of Moss's hatred for the local media.

I take it to be legit. Your opinion of it is your own, I guess.

So I'm at the draft party chatting with a guy who sits in my section at the Metrodome. You all know him as the guy Moss jumped to in the stands after scoring a touchdown (remember the infamous "big old arms" comment by Madden). His name is Sid and I've chatted with him dozens of times at the games/tailgating/etc.

Anyway, after Moss is traded, he got a phone call from the Vikes saying that Moss' agent wanted to talk to him and gave him the agent's phone number. Sid calls up his agent and DiTrapano (spelling?) tells him that Moss wants to talk to him. So he gets Sid's number and Moss calls Sid. Anyway, Moss wanted some of the real Vikings fans to know what really went down, so he called Sid knowing that he would tell all the good folks in section 100 what went down.

Moss told him that in mid-February, Moss met with McCombs. McCombs starts railing on how the Vikes performed at the end of the last couple seasons and rips on Moss and Daunte. This goes on for awhile and finally Moss stands up and starts yelling at McCombs -- called him a "cheap bastard" for having $30 million in salary cap space and using so little of it to improve the team. Moss told McCombs that if he wanted to win nearly as bad as Moss and Daunte that he'd go out and try to improve the team instead of just crossing his fingers that the offense can score 40 points a game. After the cheap bastard comment, Moss just walked out.

About a week after the meeting, Moss' agent finds out that the Vikes have actively begun to shop him around to other teams and within a couple days the Vikes agreed with Oakland. McCombs didn't contact Moss after the fateful meeting and began making calls to other owners on his own without going through the front office.

That would explain why just a week before he was traded, the front office and Fowler all said Moss would not be traded.

Moss said that Tice, Daunte, Bryzenski, etc. all disclosed their displeasure with the deal to him, but that their hands were tied because McCombs made the call and couldn't be talked out of it.

Anyway, thought you guys would want to know what I heard. Take it for what it is worth, but I trust the guy. He's met Moss a bunch of times and is a good guy.

Makes me even more pissed that we don't have him on our team still. At least in my mind, it is just one more ****ty thing McCombs pulled on this team. He's leaving quite a legacy.

BTW, Red has an interview here on FOX9 News tonight. I saw the teaser this morning, and Red confirmed that Randy was "pissed off...said he wouldn't report if traded....and threatened to retire if traded."

An opinion on what tho??

In that what your friend said Sid said happened? Or that Sid talked to Moss & what Moss said was true?

It sounds like nothing but a soap opera IMO. It does seem odd tho that supposedly after Moss was traded , the Vikes (?) called Sid to tell him Moss' agent wanted to talk to him. What a strange but nice gesture by the Vikes when it would seem obvious , if true, that Moss wanted to tell his side of the story to the fans & knowing it wouldn't be flattering for the team that just traded him. Doubtful to say the least....

Besides, McCombs has proved he can be a jerk & so has Moss. Once again, the truth probably falls somewhere in the middle...

Yeah, this story is setting my bull**** detectors to defcon-5. Moss got screwed, perhaps, but he just HAD to give his side of the story to this guy Sid because, gosh darnit, he's a darn good fan? Come on.

Well, #1.....Randy and Sid have been friends for a while and everyone around here knows it. Lots of people know Sid, and he's not the kind of guy who is going to go around making crap up.

#2. Red gave a local TV interview on Tuesday, and what he said and what Sid said, almost match each other word for word.

Even if it is just a "soap opera," I'll take it over the "vomit opera" that's going on in Philadelphia any day!
