Default Bellotti doesn't trust the BCS...

Trust BCS? Tell it to Bellotti

The names are flying at Oregon coach Mike Bellotti like bugs hitting a windshield.

Louisiana State ... Oklahoma ... Kansas ... Missouri.

The Ducks trail only LSU in the latest Bowl Championship Series standings, meaning they are in line to play in the national championship game Jan. 7 in New Orleans.

But right on their heels are three Big 12 Conference schools – Kansas (third), Oklahoma (fourth) and Missouri (fifth).

Various published reports indicate that if Kansas wins out, the Jayhawks will leapfrog to the top spot based on victories against the other two ranked league foes.

Where would that leave Oregon? In a familiar, on-the-outside-looking-in situation.

“My history with the BCS is not very good,” Ducks coach Mike Bellotti said during a weekly conference call Tuesday.

• In 2001, Oregon claimed the Pacific-10 Conference title but was bypassed for the BCS national title game. Pollsters took Nebraska instead to face Miami in a higher-ratings matchup.

• Two years ago, when the Ducks first went with the spread offense, they won their final three games to finish 10-1, placed fifth in the BCS and saw Notre Dame leap over them to grab a BCS bowl spot because of the school’s agreement with the organization.

“It was frustrating,” Bellotti said. “In 2001, we should have been in the championship game, and 2005, we should have been in a BCS game. I don’t have a lot of trust in that regard.”

Oregon has three games remaining, starting with a Thursday night matchup at Arizona, then playing at UCLA before hosting the Civil War rivalry game against Oregon State on Dec. 1.

“The people in charge (of the BCS system) are trying to make it an equitable system,” Bellotti said. “Like I said, I’m not worried. If we win out, we put ourselves in position that people have to consider us.”

It will be interesting to see if Oregon does get left out again considering Pac Ten Commish Tom Hansen threatened to disband from the BCS when the contract for the alliance is up.

The Pac Ten has lost millions upon millions of dollars in the BCS era due to being left out of at-large bids as well as thru revenue sharing with the other lesser conferences.

I have a solution for Bellotti... coach a team outside of the Pac 10. It's never going to get respect (USC aside of course). EVER.

Some pro-Pac Ten talk mush?

Wow, I'm shocked.

Tree huggers got game. That much I do know.
