The Reds are a bit of a mess right now after getting off to a good start. I wonder how long they will wait until Jay Bruce is called up to try and spark the offense and Homer Bailey is brought back up to try and settle the back end of the rotation as Fogg and Arroyo have been mediocre to downright brutal out there.

Well, it's a bit early to call it a "mess." They basially had 5 bad games. That's not good, but it happens.

But I agree, it is time to show Fogg, Coffey and Ryan Freel the door. Trade Hatteberg and play Votto everyday.

Shake it up

Well, the Brewers escaped St. Louis with a win after not having the lead all week until the tenth inning today. Prince Fielder FINALLY got his first homer, a game winner, on a pretty good pitch. I really hate watching games played in St. Louis. The camera angle is shifted from left-center to dead-center field, and I'm not used to it yet. It's probably a better angle to see balls and strikes, but I'm not a fan.

Never heard of baseball RPI before, but it must be a good stat, because the Brewers are number 2 in MLB. It goes by winning percentage and SOS and opponents SOS. I don't know how the Brewers are #2, but they have played some of the NL's best teams already and are a respectable 8-6 coming out of it. The list seems to be very NL heavy, and is availiable here-

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/rpi

Interesting, but not at all groundbreaking

What a difference a day makes:

A day after the Reds crush the Cubs & The O's beating the Sox in 10 (never should have joked how Jenks hadn't blown a save yet ), The Cubs take the Pirates 3-2 & the Sox crush the Rays 9-2...

Just keep from extended losing streaks, boys....

deavo: Sheets going out with an arm injury. Can't be a good thing for this snake bit guy...

I was in center field as the Sox were taking BP and I said to my buddy, we are going to get stomped tonight. They were sending balls out of the park the entire time. And low and behold it carried over into the game.

Ah, he was just taken out as a precautionary measure. He'll be fine. Gave me quite a scare when he left though. He actually looked completely dominant up until he got taken out today. He was just starting to throw his changeup a little more too. A three pitch Ben Sheets is the NL's worst nightmare. His two are nasty enough as is. Not good to see injury concerns already, though, serious or not.

Hopefully you're right cuz he's a joy to watch when he's on...of course when he's not playing Chicago.

Seattle is a pretty crappy baseball organization but the Mariners have the best bloggers covering them.

Cards continue to roll as Pujols hits a 3-run bomb and Wellmeyer turns in another strong 7 inning performance.

If this keeps up the Cards are going to have some tough decisions to make when Mulder, Clement, and Carpenter are ready to go in the next couple of months. Lohse, Looper, Wainwright, and Wellmeyer all have ERAs of 3.24 or better. The starting rotation is 10-2 with a 2.97 ERA.

I wonder how much longer the Yanks stick with Phillip Hughes before they either send him down or stick him in the bullpen for a spell as he just cannot get anyone out right now. The Yanks rotation is a mess right now. They are getting nothing right now from Mussina, Hughes, or Kennedy.

I know you're 'cautiously optimistic', Doublee, but if your Cards keep this up all the way to the return of Mulder, Clement, and Carpenter, yikes....

On a side note: I just read that Glavine's going on the DL...for the 1st time in his 22 year career.

Talk about durability...

Phillies SS Eric Bruntlett just drew a walk after a 8 minute 14 pitch ab. Pretty impressive. Got me thinking.(shut it Tark and Buck) What's the record for most pitches seen in an at bat?

Couldn't find a definitive answer but, I did come across this....

Roy Thomas would certainly be a contender for holding this statistic. He once fouled off twenty-two pitches, bringing the count up 3 to 2. If that’s true, he would have been pitched at least twenty-six pitches (twenty-two fouled, three balls, and one ball that he put in play.) http://thelongestlistofthelongeststu...m/long477.html

Anybody know for certain?

Cubs stomp the Pirates 13-1 at the Friendly Confines.

First the upper

& then the downer

TB blanks the Sox 5-0

I pray this isn't another roller coaster year for Buehrle >>> 7 innings-12 hits-5 runs
