Default HOF Ballot Out

This year's HOF ballot is out and this year's list includes the additions of Willie McGee, Darryl Strawberry, and Wade Boggs.

The complete ballot (x-first time eligible):
x-Jim Abbott
Bert Blyleven
x-Wade Boggs
x-Tom Candiotti
Dave Concepcion
x-Chili Davis
Andre Dawson
Steve Garvey
Rich Gossage
Tommy John
x-Mark Langston
Don Mattingly
x-Jack McDowell
x-Willie McGee
x-Jeff Montgomery
Jack Morris
Dale Murphy
x-Otis Nixon
Dave Parker
x-Tony Phillips
Jim Rice
Ryne Sandberg
Lee Smith
x-Terry Steinbach
x-Darryl Strawberry
Bruce Sutter
Alan Trammell

So, who gets in this year? Boggs is a no-brainer to me. Five batting titles .328 average (ranks 34th) and 3010 hits (ranks 23rd). He is also 15th in career doubles and won a couple of Gold Gloves. I think Sandberg gets in this year as well. He ranks as one of the best defensive secondbasemen ever and is near the top of the list in career homers by a second baseman.

Santo can only get in if the Veteran's Committee selects him.

Why Lee Smith, Goose Gossage, Ryne Sandberg, and Bert Blyleven are not in the Hall of Fame is beyond me.
Lee Smith and Goose Gossage are 2 of the finest closers in the history of the game, Sandberg was a perennial All Star, and Blyleven had the best curve ball in his era (3701 K's -- everyone that is above him in this category that is eligible is in the Hall). He's also a really nice guy.
Boggs is the only first timer with a chance to be inducted and I think he'll get in this time.

I think Dale Murphy and Don Mattingly should get in. They both won MVP's I think.

Mattingly? No. He did not do it for long enough he only had five or six great years until his body gave out on him.

I have always been kind of torn on Dale Murphy. The biggest thing keeping him out is his .265 batting average. The only major categories he ranks top 100 in for his career are homers and RBIs.

Bert Blyleven should be in the Hall of Fame. I don't know why he isn't. Then again, Babe Ruth didn't received 100% of the votes or any of the guys who wre first inducted.
