Default Can Tebow be an NFL starter?

The Tebow vs. Kyle Orton battle in Denver is one of the biggest stories of the preseason. Orton has gone as far to say as he doesn't give a damn what the fans think, as Tebow is the fan favorite. Critics such as ESPN's Merrill Hodge have blasted Tebow for his mechanics. Tebow had a good game against Dallas last night, going 6-for-7, 91 yards, including a 43-yard pass.

Tebow: will he be an NFL starter?

Kyle Orton passed for over 3,800 yards last year, yet the Broncos finished 4-12 - inviting comparisons to Steve DeBerg, who Bill Walsh acidly characterized as being a quarterback who will always play just well enough to get you beat.

Tim Tebow, by contrast, invites comparisons with Reggie Bush when he first arrived on the scene in New Orleans: While he hardly hung up earth-shattering numbers, Bush generated tremendous optimism both in the locker room and among the fan base. Tebow has the capacity to produce the same effect.

Tough week for Tebow, getting pounded by the Lions. Good kid, but he's not going to be a good enough passer to succeed in the NFL. His "winning attitude" is just not going to cut it.

I think Tebow can be a valuable situational QB. He is always a threat with his legs. If he can improve on his mechanics, he can be a real starter.

Does that mean that he will acquire the nickname "The Situation," Rick?

He's a gimmick. He's a backup for now until he learns to throw the ball properly in my opinion.

He wins, though, and why do we we play to win the game? To win...

Do you want to elaborate on this, Rick?

What exactly is a situational QB?

I didn't really know that there is such a thing - unless we go back to maybe Kordell Stewart.

Situational QB.

Interesting.
