Bama, that is good news. If you have any questions about the rehab, stay in touch with his rehab team. It should consist of a Dr. (who directs the treatment and rehab), several Nurses(who do the treatments and medication), an Occupational Therapist (who will design any braces that will be required), and the Social Workers. All members should be able to answer general questions and specific ones about their area of expertise. The best people to talk to are the social workers. The others can sometimes "brush you off" by talking in their own jargon, but the Social Workers will talk in English and take your questions and concerns to the rest of the team. They will get back to you with answers.
I hope they can get him up and moving soon, with weight-bearing to come quickly. The rehab is long and tough, but it is worthwhile.

Catman, which one of those would you be if you were on a Rehab Team?

I'm sorry to hear that, Keith, but I am glad to hear that he is getting better. Your father will be in my prayers.

Bama, I hope things continue to improve. I have not been around the last few days, I'm sorry I missed your post. My prayers are with your family.

I am a nurse. I am one that tries to speak English to all of my patients and their families.
We are too busy to talk at times, though and try to make our contacts short. I just hope that all people understand this and don't take our "brush-offs" personally. We always talk to the Social Workers and they take the time to be the go-betweens in our contacts with patients and families.
Bama, hang in there. I hope things work out well for you.

I understand that you can't do everything since nurses are not as common these days and are very important. Keep up the good work!

There is apparently a shortage in nurses, I heard this on the radio recently. There are not even people applying and learning in college how to be nurses and so the medical field is trying to promote being a nurse in schools and whatnot.

I think it's important that people want to do it.

Bama, how is your dad doing now?
By the way, the Iowa Board of Nursing (which is the group that granted me my license), has estimated that there is currently a shortage of over 3500 positions for licensed nurses in Iowa.
If I might be permitted, I'd invite any of you that wish to go into the nursing field. It is very rewarding and challenging.

Catman thanks for asking. He is doing better and he is doing better since rehab. He will come home for a trial visit Sunday from 8 to 8. I hope all goes well, but I am nervous and anxious about him coming home for some reason. I'm afraid he will get frustrated by not getting around like he use too.

I am happy to hear that he is better. Just let him get back in a gradual way and he'll be OK.
