Question MLB should change its tune

Quote:
Not to sound un-patriotic, but MLB should change its tune

http://www.sportsline.com/b/page/pre...239705,00.html

Just before opening day this season, as the wave of patriotism continued to surge through a nation still at war and whose wounds remained raw, Major League Baseball announced that the singing of God Bless America would continue in parks until further notice, with the added caveat that games would pause for a minute's worth of reflection as the clock hit 9:11 p.m. during each team's first home night game of the season.

Ever so quietly, though, after listening to fan feedback and with much thought, a handful of clubs are abandoning the playing of God Bless America on a nightly basis during the seventh-inning. Oakland, San Francisco and San Diego -- among others -- now are playing it sporadically, but not habitually.

And it is the right thing to do.
I'm interested to hear your opinion: is it time to end the extra American patriotism in the seventh-inning?

I think they should think of a song to sing to apologize to Canada for their stupidness in dropping 2, 500-pound bombs on 10 of our troops -- 2 died and 8 seriously injured -- ya, good for 'em. Over 3,500 Americans die and to "fight back terrorism," they kill guys on their OWN SIDE. America isn't so great, so stop singing the song that says it IS.

i feel sorry for the people, but it doesn't mean we're a terrible country as a whole.

The "God Bless America" doesn't need to be played all the time anymore, we need to look to the future and move on...

I love my country, but let's play ball. Game is slow enough.

Ya -- stick to the 7th inning stretch and "take me out to the ball game" or whatever they usually play.

As I said a long time ago -- 9/11 is quickly wearing off. "Sports will no longer be called wars." Well, I heard several times throughtout the NFL playoffs and already in the NHL playoffs as games being referred to as "wars," and the players as "warriors."

People are already forgetting. It had no effect on society as a whole just 7 months, 6 days later.

I have no problem with the continuation of the "patriotic" theme. The break can be between innings or during another inning other than the 7th. The 7th inning stretch can go back to the traditional "Take me out to the Ballgame".

I am all for patriotism, but the national anthem is enough now. Bring back Take Me Out to the Ballgame. When do you go to the bathroom if they keep playing patriotic songs?

Hey, Mr Canada, it was just a little friendly fire among pals.

Lee, I think I speak for most Americans by saying: Shut the hell up. We have done more to fight terrorism than your country, thats for sure.

One of my best friends hails from Canada, all of the stuff I hear from him about the French is less than flattering.

As for the patriotism. It's a nice gesture, but I agree, its time to bring back "Take me out to the ballgame."

Ohh please. Dont play that high and might bull**** cause your the one who started the whole argument. You just wont respond because you know that Im right.

Wake up, Lee. In wars, therre are casualties. Sometimes, those casualties are our own allies and US soldiers. Mistakes are made, even by great Canada. If you dont think so then your either stupid, or uninformed.

And whoever deleted my post last time, please dont do it again because Lee got to go on his little tyrade, and I should be able to also.

Everybody chill-everyone has their right to their own opinion. We can agree to disagree lol Everybody has a different view on something it seems. Some people see nothing wrong with burning the flag and others do-some ladies believe in a woman having her right to get an abortion, but some don't. Everything can be debated for eternity. Have a good night.

I love the patriotic stuff. Too often people forget or take the price of freedom for granted. I'm all for doing what we can to remind us/them.
