Well a Boston defensive lapse just led to another White Sox run, which makes this game 5-3. At this point I don't see the Red Sox coming back in the bottom of the 9th. But then again, I didn't see something coming last year either...

With the Red Sox out of the playoffs now, the White Sox can set their pitching staff up the way they want to. Everyone gets to rest and heal up their bumps and bruises.
Congratulations to the White Sox on a good win.

Red Sox out. Check. That takes care of one set of obnoxious fans...

Even with the added rest, I'm still picking the winner of NY/Anaheim over the White Sox. I just don't see Chicago beating either of those clubs.

There is no reason the Sox can't get past the Yanks they will have home field and their pitching is so much better than the Yanks right now and pitching tends to win out in the postseason.

I gotta give props to El Duque. He came in out of the bullpen, I think it was the 7th or 8th inning, with the bases loaded and 0 outs. He got out of the inning with no runs scored. I was very impressed.

Now, the Yanks have their backs against the wall. Even if they win tomorrow they still have to face Colon in Anaheim. Not an enviable task. Great win for the Angels.
I concur that the winner of the Angels/Yanks series should be better on paper than the White Sox, but I like the White Sox pitching to be better than New York's, if they meet. The Angels pitching can handle the Sox, IMO.
National League should be more defined after tomorrow. Can San Diego win a game? Will the Astros be able to hold the Braves off?

At this time last year I had seen 148 clips of either Bill Buckner or Babe Ruth in relation to the Red Sox "jinx". Where's the barrage of Joe Jackson footage? (or maybe it's there-- i haven't seen much ChiSox action so far)

the writing is on the wall in the American League and it says something to the effect of:

the ChiSox have far and away the best managed and deepest bullpen in the AL, if not MLB right now. they will win the AL.

they will take out the Angels, who will dispose of the Yankees. gotta love those boo's for Randy Johnson. only 3 innings, 7 hits, 5 runs, 2 homeruns. a total bust nearly all season long.

i don't think there's too much Joe Jackson footage from the 1910's. the first baseball on TV wasn't until 1939.

i wonder how much backlash, if any, the Red Sox will take over keep Schilling off the mound during the White Sox series.

Wakefield got smacked around, but led the team in wins, strikeouts, and era. i feel Wake was the best guy to send out w/ the season on the line.

Didn't stop the Babe Ruth coverage last year. They just showed photos mostly, mixed in with footage of him warming up while reminding you that the Red Sox were cursed and hadn't won since 1918. Never mind that the White Sox drought is longer

playing in New York and being as famous as Ruth was it would be more likely that his film was preserved.

Joe Jackson being an outcast to baseball at the time could mean his film could have been ruined or destoryed like many classic films and old footage that was shot during that era. but it'd be intresting to see. i'm sure 1918 world series footage is around.

angels vs white sox could be a good matchup. both aggressive small ball teams who play very similar.

you gotta wonder how soon under the panic buttons get pressed in great number in NYC?

You have to wonder why they couldn't schedule a day off between American league series. It's not like they didn't know the division series might go to five games.
