Default Dirk Nowitzki Could Be Lost for the Season

He has bone spurs in his left ankle and may have surgery soon. But he wants to play for a team in his native country(Germany) in August. He must make a tough decision. Dallas really needs him for the playoffs. He is the leading rebounder on the team. He has been averaging 23.6 points per game.

They need him if they want to put more punch into their game. Nash, Finley and Nowitzki are a 1-2-3 punch and what is it without one of them?

Well if he does have to miss the rest of the season, and I'd be surprised if that happened, that's another good thing about that trade with Denver, Raef LaFrentz can come on in and step up.

On the other side of it, that means the Timberwolves have an even better chance to get out of the 1st round now.

I think the trade with Denver helped them out a lot by adding depth to the lineup in both frontcourt and backcourt units.

Guys, the season's over in two days. The Mavs already know they're going to be a good seed and just need to rest their stars for the run.

Well they're still playing for the Midwest Division title even this late in the season so these last 2 games still mean something. They still have something to play for.

It doesn't matter either way, they don't have any "weapon" that can stop Shaq. Dirk is going to miss a week, and then be back in the lineup when it matters.

No one has a weapon that can stop Shaq, plain and simple. The Mavs do have a lot of big bodies and guys like Nowitzki can trouble Shaq by forcing him to play outside of his comfort zone in the paint.

I don't think Nowitzki can stop Shaq... compared to Shaq he is a piece of chicken... Shaq is the best center in the league and until someone who weighs 350 pounds and measures 7' 4" he'll keep going that way.

I didn't say he would stop Shaq. I said he'd distract Shaq and get him to play differently than he likes to play. Because Nowitzki and other Mav big guys have range, they can do that. No one is going to match Shaq physically, that's granted.

P.S. Shaq is only 330, 7'1". What a slouch.

Nowitski cant stop Shaq, however he could bring him out of that comfort zone like mjames mentioned. However the "Jump shot" doesnt win you games and most importantly playoff games. They're going to need a inside presence and Shaq will block whoever.

I agree. Another thing you have to remember is that half court play and defense rule the playoffs and neither of those things are the Mavericks' strength.
