Wow! He's good but not that good.

It appears the Cubs management wants to keep him around. Perhaps the Twins could take a look at the contract and offer Johan a similar one -- maybe 5% more?

Johan's getting $20 to $25 million per year, minimum.

True, but if Zito pulls $18 mil a year than Zambrano is going to get that much. Zambrano is 3 years younger and at this point in time a better pitcher than Zito is. Zito's contract is going to artificially inflate the market for guys like Zambrano and Johan.

It depends on what the Twins do the rest of the season. If it looks like they will field a competitive team the rest of the year and next season, he will give them a "hometown" discount and sign for less than market value -- as will Torii Hunter.
Zito's contract (not to mention Gil Meche's) have inflated the value for starting pitching in the majors.

Even though Santana is struggling somewhat this season he is worth more than Zambrano in my humble opinion.

Will Johan be willing to give a hometown discount?

If the Twins do something to show him they want to contend, yes.

Sure does. On the Cubs radio broadcast the other day, Ron Santo said he has an ERA of over 9 since he signed the extension.

Hello Pats Fan. Nice to see you here. Your Red Sox (a bit of an assumption here) look to be the class of the AL this season, but they have to show it on the field.
Getting back to Zambrano, he has always had a short fuse and his temper has gotten him into trouble with the Cubs' fans, as he did not appreciate the "ovation" they gave him his last outing. They will forgive him, I have no doubt.
