Question Why tennis sucks

Tennis is going down hill. The ratings suck. Now,why is this? I think it's because tennis is boring and to slow to watch.

What else is their to watch this time of year than tennis. Baseball is also slow and in the middle of its season.

Tennis sucks because...........

The speed of the ball has become too great......particularly on the serve, and consequently, artistry and all-court "skill" is all but absent from the modern pro game.

Not enough rallies, basically.

"Muscle" tennis sucks out loud.

I said in the other thread that the net needs to be raised slightly.

Beyond this, the casual fan can't comprehend the ranking system and there is no compelling US male player for fans to gravitate to......like McEnroe or Connors. You know, guys that actually show some personality or fire on the court.....love 'em or hate 'em.

Tennis needs to stip the players naked and let them go at it on Showtime after dark. This would spur interest. IMO.

Well, seeing as how this is unlikely to happen, raising the net is the next best idea.

The more a player has to hit "up" the slower he must hit the ball.

Slower hit balls = more rallies = more "artistry" in the sport.

If you can't picture it then you'll just have to trust me on it.

Poptart's right on here. I haven't heard anyone else suggest this, but it makes sense to me. And he's right about rallies. Without the rallies, men's tennis has been dead for a while. Last men's match I watched was the last Grand Slam event Sampras was in to get 14. Other than that, men's tennis sucks.

Women's tennis, on the other hand...

I'm a Capriati guy. I was sort of sucked in when she came back gangbusters in 2001. She looks a little tired and unfit now, which she should be, I suppose, at 28 or 29. I don't mind that Serena is a female hulk; there's something compelling to her game, despite the fact that she suffers from the faults of the men's game. That she can play sometimes very badly and still kick the absolute ass of almost everyone in the women's game, like Tiger in golf, is compelling to me.

poptart is right on here about men's tennis. The modern game is too much muscle and not enough grit. No personalities either. Hey, the old way is better. There's something you don't hear from me all that often...LOL.

You could say bad things about any sport, not just tennis. Personally, I love tennis and it's my third favorite sport, behind hoops and the gridiron. If you don't like it, don't watch it, and more importantly, don't complain about it!

However, I do think some good points have been made that there is a lack of attractions for casual viewers on the men's side.

As poptart explained, the level of play has deteriorated with more power and less skill and combined with the lack of newcomers with the parting of ways with Sampras, soon with Agassi, McEnroe, etc. More importantly, the men's game has not been marketed as well as it should be. Many of the top stars are not American, and the fact of the matters is that Americans have a hard time pulling for someone who isn't American. It's not considered to be "cool" really, but I really enjoy playing it.

In a nutshell, that's my exact opinion too. Tennis is a great game and sport to play and follow. Instead of throwing out radical ideas and trying to change a game loved by millions of people worldwide, either accept it or don't watch it.

yeah making the nets higher would help. I don't know how you could say baseball is more boring than tennis. I hate both tennis and mlb but i still would rather watch a baseball game on tv than a tennis match.

Default what I think

I think you think tennis sucks because it is a sport you can play all of your life. Unlike football where you cannot play competitvely and feel no shame sitting on your couch with a bag of chips watching. Where as tennis, you really have no excuse not to play. Lazy

Jut my thoughts. Always have been.
