Default Cool NHL Facts

Hey

Did you guys know that Theo Fluery score 3 shorthanded goals in a single game!!!! This was on March 9, 1991!!!! Theo has the second highest plus/minus with a +9 in one game (Does anyone know who was first)!!!!! During that game Doug Wilson had a -9 which is the worst ever!!!! The final score of the game was 13-1 for the Flames over the San Jose Sharks!!!!

Fred Shero is the first coach to win the Jack Adams award! He coached the Flyers to their first 2 straight Stanley Cup wins!!!

Ulf Sterner is the first Swedish born player in the NHL!!!!

Bobby Orr and Chris Pronger are the only defensemen to win the Hart trophy and the Norris Trophy in the same year!!

There are many more cool facts in the NHL but i would like you to tell us!! So if you have any NHL fact to tell us go right ahead!!!!

Nice thread idea

I'd imagine Bobby Orr has the highest +/- in a single game, but it's hard to imagine anyone getting +9 in a single game these days!!

How about, in the 2004 World Cup, EVERY SINGLE TEAM that has scored first is undefeated (17-0-1)!!!!

I'll think of some more stats, I'm sure. I'm too tired right now

Well, here's one that I recently alluded to on another post ..... The Longest NHL game was played on March 24, 1936 between the Detriot Red Wings and the Montreal Maroons.

The game lasted a total of 176:30 minutes including six overtime periods of 116:30 minutes. The Red wings won the game 1-0.

That's a pretty freaking long game. Those guys must have been dead-tired after that one! In fact, it's basically the equivalent of playing 3 NHL games in a row.

Colorado and Detroit played a penalty-free game in 2000, the PEAK of their ENORMOUS rivalry!!!

I remember that penalty-free game ... I couldn't believe it even after I saw it, though.

Her's one ... I think it was Dec. 10 or Dec. 11 of 1996 ... my two favorite teams, the Wings and Oilers, end the game in a scoreless tie and Curtis Joseph, then an Oiler and now a Wing, makes 52 saves.

Michel Bergeron was the youngest coach in NHL history -- he
broke in at age 25 in 1979-80 with the Quebec Nordiques.

Sticking with the Nordiques, Ron Tugnutt once made 70 saves in a 3-3 tie against the Boston Bruins in the Boston Gardens. The Boston fans gave him a standing ovation and Ray Bourque himself had 19 shots in the game....and never scored!

Yep, the ol' "Tugger" started his career with Les Nordiques back when they were a horrible team and lost about 65 games a season. His goals against was hovering in the 4.61 range but when your team is allowing 73 shots in a game can you blame him?
