Cool Video Game Nostalgia

Joined a message board yesterday for a certain niche of video games. One of the threads was about little-know but awesome games, which got me rattling off some classics.

So here ladies (any girls in SCMB???) and gentlemen, get your joysticks ready (whoops that doesn't sound right) and let us visit blasts from the past.

Being 19 as of today, I was primarily influenced by Super Nintendo, although earlier systems such as the Texas Instrument and Sega Master System were iimportant as well. Somehow regular NES was not a major part of my life.

Without further adieu, some classics:

Golden Axe (Sega Master): This game %#@%ed me up. That's all I have to say. I don't think I've been the same.

Ultra Beasts (Sega Genesis): I remember you could change into freakish beasts somehow. Awesome side-scrolling action game.

Joe and Mac (Arcade/SNES): Fun side-scroller about two cave dudes that fight cavemen and dinosaurs to save hot chicks. For some reason the devil was the final boss.

Time Soldier (Arcade/Sega Master): Now this game totally @#^!ed me up.

Great Basketball (Sega Master): My first sports game love. The player one controller port on my Sega was busted, so you had to press down on it with your big toe. I remember I beat this game in one sitting (no saves or even passwords in those days lol), which was like 3 hours. Suffice to say, my toe was sore afterward.

TMNT II (Arcade/NES): Epic.

The Simpsons (Arcade): The story is something like you have to save Maggie from Mr. Burns. Wow, just thinking about it... this game is old lol!

I'll post some more when it's not 2AM lol.

Yeah I recently found a NES emulator on P2P and have been enjoying some old-school Super Mario action! Also I like Arkanoid and Kung Fu.

I've always wanted to play Maniac Mansion. It's on the list.

Hang-On - uber bike game

Road Rage - another uber bike game, and a violent one at that!

I guess the Duke Nukem and Doom phenomenons may deserve their own 1,000 word essays.

I would also have to go with Pac man that is a classic and Doom opended the door for some of the games we see now like Grand Theft Auto so that is up there too

International Track and Field on NES where you keep jamming the button to go faster with your runner.

Also two words: Tecmo Bowl.

Tarkus...

My wife's cousin dated a guy who had Pong about 6 months ago. Never got my hands on it. Was pushin' for marriage.

I've boasted on here before, and I'll do it now...

from 1983-84...I could match ANYONE in a game of Frogger, arcade or Atari version ( more prolific at the arcade, got the blood flowin').

Defender, Asteroid, Space Invader. These were a quarter a game in the arcades back in the 80's. Of course, if you were good ( I was) you could get extra time for high scores. Several years ago I bought my son a classic arcade video game for PS2 that had about 6 games including Defender, Space Invader, Joust and a few other I can't remember. I tried playing the games that I had in the 80's but it just wasn't the same. Gotta have a joystick, the buttons for hyperspace and the big bomb, and ya gotta be standing up to play it well, at least I do :-) The kid liked it though and I found my husband adapted much better to the controls than I did.

I was a huge Super Nintendo freak. My favorites were Super Mario World (I could beat that game with my eyes closed), Super Mario Kart, and Starfox! I remember I used to think Starfox had such advanced graphics. But now I'm into Gran Turismo 4 on PS2. I just got it Wednesday and in HDTV mode, it looks like a DVD. Spectacular!

Ohhh yeah! I picked up my copy today (which I had preordered six and a half months ago!) and even on a little TV the graphics were to die for.
