Defense usually does & they're known for it. If not them, then the Spurs of course...

What, exactly is a Piton? :goof:

azac, you are going to find that a majority of the folks around here are drinking the Shaq Kool-Aid and see the Heat as prohibitive favorites to take the East. I, for one, and am in the minority and say the Pistons are the team to beat in the East. Not sure if they repeat as champs though. But, they have as good a chance as any of the other 'favorites' at this stage.

mmm.. new Shaq-flavored Kool-Aid! yummy!
Yeah I think the Heat can take the Pistons in a series, and the championship will be decided between Shaq & Duncan.

I think it will be the Spurs dethroning the Pistons in 7 games.

I don't think that the Pistons will repeat. I agree that the Heat are a big favorite to come out of the East and it will also be interesting to see how the 76ers do with Iverson now. You never know, stranger things have happened!!

I was not in love with the new Shaq Kool-aid at first because I thought the Pistons were the better TEAM when they performed up to standards. I still think they will win but for them to let Eldon Campbell go knowing that they would be meeting Shaq somewhere along the road makes it more difficult.

It's not about what the Pistons do with Shaq tray, it's about what they do with the Heat shooters. Shaq got his share last year in the Finals, they couldn't do anything about it. Problem was a wannabe Jordan getting 11 points in one game, perhaps worrying the waterboy was hitting on his wife, sabatoging a team. It would be nice to see the vastly less talented Heat shooters come up big against Detroit to force pressure on them.

But in today's NBA, when you put up great defense against even the best shooter's, defense usually wins, and big. Not sure how much Campbell's prescence would alter the way a Det-Mia series went. My guess is not much.

Buckeye I cant disagree with anything you said. My concern had more to do with having Shaq pound on Big Ben for 6 or seven game without much behind him to lighten his load, then having to turn around and deal with most likely Duncan for 6 or 7 games if they get by Miami is alot to ask of any two players. That is where that extra 7 footer will be missed.

True tray. Shaq really didn't guard Duncan in their game recently and they rarely went head-to-head during the rivalry, but that could have been due to who was on each team's bench.

It's hard to see Miami's shooters being able to get off good shots to beat the Detroit D. All the pressure will be on Shaq to really dominate, but hey, that's been his role since day 1 when he came into this league, so nothing new there.

Still, I'll stick with Miami when it comes time to force a pick from me. Til then, that Detroit D looks pretty good.

Well, a lot will depend on whether or not the Pistons get away with playing Shaq straight up again. A big key to Miami's success is that teams key on Shaq so much leaving guys like Damon Jones and Udonis Haslem with open looks at the basket.

I think they will play him straight up doublee. They are the champs, Eddie Jones doesn't have a great playoff career, and D. Jones-Haslem haven't played in a big series before. It's up to Shaq and maybe even more so Wade. I think if D. or E. Jones or Haslem have a great game each, plus a 30-15 from Shaq and 20-10ast from Wade each night, the Heat could get a series win.

I think the Sixers could pass the Cavs for No. 3 ... there may not be a better duo than Webber and Iverson right now, sadly.

Sixers? After tonight the Wiz are tied with them and the Bulls are nipping at the fading Cavs heels just one game behind them.

Yeah, Brown will play Shaq straight up he did it last year against the Lakers and got away with it.
