Default Geography

Does anyone else love the study of geography? I love studying about other countries and their locations and capitals.

My grandfather on my dad's side came from Oslo, Norway.

That country is very unique. It is a long country and very narrow at the top. In some places only 50 miles across.

It also has one of the world's largest merchant fleets.

It discovered oil in the North Sea around 1969-so it is a real rich country and Oslo is one of the most expensive cities in the world.

The coastline of Norway doesn't freeze up because of the warm Gulf Stream.

Population of Norway is over 4,00,000 people.

They also have some very tough immigration laws. Good for them.

I love looking at maps of the different countries and seeing where cities I've heard of all my life where they are actually located inside a country.

I love reading about the different oceans. Pacific ocean has the deepest trench-Mariana- I believe it is spelled that way, is 35,000 ft deep at certain points. Wow.

The Atlantic has the best fishing they say.

I bought this World Geography book at Books A Million Saturday. Real nice big book with maps and all the info on countries.

I took geography earlier in college. I think it's important people know about other countries, their cultures, and locations. I am disgusted at the ignorance of many Americans when it comes to places like Europe.

I think its been on David Letterman where they ask people in the streets where a certain country is or the capital of a country and they have no idea and give crazy answers.
