Default Felix Hernandez

I watched a bit of the game last night and saw that he left after getting one out. Reports said he has "tightness" in his elbow. Any updates?
It would be a real shame if this kid loses any time to injury. He has filthy stuff and is a real joy to watch pitch, even if he's pitching against your team.
It would be an even bigger shame if the Mariners let the kid pitch with a damaged elbow.

Wow, I didn't know anything about it. This would be a shame if he went down. He could become one of the best.

ussmariner.com had a damn near meltdown last night, figuratively and literally. The server and members were both getting wonky.

I don't think the Mariners have officially said what is going on other than he had tightness in his elbow. I suspect they will send him for a MRI before officially deciding what to do.

Felix is going to miss a 2-3 starts.

*collective sigh from the M's community*

Now Grover wants to pitch Brandon Morrow, last year's first-round pick who has less than 50 innings in the minors and majors combined, against the Rangers in Arlington.

Hopefully he does not try to rush back and totally blow his arm out like Liriano did last year.

Exactly what I was thinking, doublee. Arms like those are too valuable to be concerned about missing a start or 2.

I know and the problem is they are getting nothing out of their other starting pitchers so I am afraid the Mariners will try to rush him back before they fall too far out of it.

The kicker for the Twins is they ended up not even needing Liriano down the stretch run to get into the playoffs. Who knows, if he had gotten the extra 2 1/2 to 3 weeks off maybe he could have been used in the playoffs and come out of it unscathed.

Could be. Liriano said he was ready, and his bullpen sessions went very well prior to that start. We all saw the outcome, however.
Like you, said, the Mariners may not have the luxury of bringing Felix along slowly, but I hope they do anyway. Best to err of the side of safety. He is the future "stud" of their pitching staff and they are not likely going to go anywhere this year anyway.

Here is an update from the Mariners' website:
http://seattle.mariners.mlb.com/news...=.jsp&c_id=sea
Looks like he will miss more than 2-3 starts, but should not miss significant time. Has he been placed on the DL?

No, and why they have not done so is beyond me seeing as two or three starts typically spans about two weeks anyway it is better err on the side of caution here and force him out for a minimal of 15 days even if he feels good after a week or so.

Felix was officially placed on the DL today, retroactive to the 19th.

I would be very careful with that valuable arm right now. I hope he doesn't turn into a Kerry Wood or Mark Prior. UGH!

Speaking of Mark Prior I see where he is due to have some exploratory surgery on his shoulder.

I hope they find out exactly what is wrong with Prior's shoulder. If they can find it and fix it, perhaps he'll become the pitcher everyone thought he would be.
Felix Hernandez's problems appear to be nothing big, and not ligament related. In real-life, his problem could be called "tendonitis", and rest is the best way to relieve it. They are targetting mid-May as his return date.
