Default Swinney to Coach Clemson

Dabo Swinney is reportedly getting the Clemson gig. Is Swinney really the best they could do here? Or, is Clemson gunshy about having to give out a substantial contract to a football coach given how much they are paying Bowden to go away? I cannot imagine Clemson fans are terribly bowled over by the selection given that they fancy themselves as an elite program. Apparently Clemson was not scared off by Duke and UNC's failures after promoting from within when the head coach left town.

He finished 4-2 with some decisive victories and players apparently bought into him, carrying him off the field in the last game, so I guess Clemson felt he was right. We'll see, Tommy Bowden was a big name and had success there.

Meh, winning at BC was the only one really worth mentioning. The thing is he was part of the staff that was not getting the job done and any time Bowden had a 4-2 stretch they wanted him out. Going 4-2 equates to 8-4 and that was unacceptable under Bowden. I just don't think they wanted to pay anyone big money after they had to bite the bullet and scratch the check they did to get Bowden out of there.
