Default In 2003 the D'backs offence thrives

Will someone please tell me why Col. wants to get ride of one of baseballs best hitters. If both Walker and Williams waive there no trade clause this trade will happen.
The D'backs look to have a huge edge over there western division rivals.
On opening day they will trot out a line up that could be the best in the west and maybe even all of the NL
They would have, in no paticular order

Danny Bautista
Louis Gonzalez
Larry Walker
Junior Spivey
Craig Counsell

They may indeed lose some players to free agency AKA Steve Finley.

This team is setup to make a great run.

Well, Walker might not have ANOTHER breakout season, the Rockies maybe trying to get rid of him before he becomes another Frank Thomas.

It also sets them up to make some deals to bring younger players into their system. They would be able to move a couple of middle-age players (Durazo, Womack) out and not lose anything from their current roster. These guys are much more marketable than the older players are and could be traded for prospects.
I admire the way the D'Backs have built their team into a championship contender, but now is the time for some fiscal responsibility and moving some expensive talent for prospects will go a long way toward their goal. They are one of the teams that showed an operating loss for the past couple of seasons (if we are to believe Mr. Selig's numbers).

It definately would be an upgrade in the outfield, and overall, I don't think they would lose too much. Danny Bautista is not a centerfielder though. And at first, Grace is still solid, but not a .300 hitter like he used to be. more like .285 with a little power.

As for their spending, yes. Of course giving Bautista a multiyear $7 million deal wasn't smart. But I think Walker is going to be solid no matter where he is throughout his contract. But the problem is, they don't really have anything great in the minor league system. They need to restock, the team is going to fall fast when it does (a year, 3 years, who knows?). Bur for right now, I don't think there's any reason to doubt they repeat as NL West champs.

The trade fell through. Williams didn't want to leave Arizona and his kids. I don't blame him one bit, that's why he structured his contract that way and put a no-trade cluase in there. Too bad for both parties though, it would have benefited them both.

Walker is an excellent hitter, but has been injury prone the last couple of years. I'm sure they want to dump his large salary too.
