Default Houston Wins by Gaining only 47 Yards in Total Offense

Now this is amazing. They beat Pittsburgh 27-9 and gained only 47 yards of offense. That is an NFL record for a winning team.

Aaron Glenn scored twice for Houston on two long interception returns.

Quarterback Maddox of Pittsburgh fumbled and it was returned 40 yards for a touchdown by Kenny Wright.

Houston scored all their points on defense and special teams.

Nope, they got a field goal by Kris Brown. And I don't think their special team scored either, it's all their defense.

How the hell can you outstat an expansion team, 420+ yards to 47, and loose, by 18 points and home!!!? WHOOHOOO!!! Long live the Texans!

Those stats have to make any fan of the Steelers so sick.

Yeah, it makes me sick. I think the Texans are starting to gain some of my old hatred for the Oilers.

You know who should be gaining your hatred, CanesFan1? That idiot on the sideline who didn't make a change when Maddox appeared to be out of sync. Or, the guy in the coach's box calling for 50+ passes. I understand being pass-wacky in the 4th quarter, but come on. Get the damned ball in the damned end zone.

This type of result can be the result of but one thing: Cowher and his staff (for the fifth time this year) was out-coached. End of story.

If the Steelers play as pathetically as this next week, Carolina will set yet another franchise record for scoring, because their offense can score.

Very true. They should have pulled Maddox at least before the 4th quarter. No way anyone should win with those kind of stats.

If nothing else, Maddox's performance in this game exposes the inherent flaws of the NFL's "Passer Rating Formula," under which Maddox receives a rating of 55.1 for the game. Under the "Quarterback Rating Formula" I offered as an alternative in a thread posted here a while back, his rating for the game is 32.2 - the main reason for the difference being that under the latter formula Maddox gets penalized for the three touchdowns he "allowed," where under the former he does not.

Tommy thought he was playing for Houston, he is still suffering from that little hit Keith Bulluck gave him when Maddox played the Titans.

If Maddox struggles early on this week against Carolina, expect Cowher to pull him in favor of Stewart. It would be the right move.

I still would rather have Maddox in there than Kordell. He shows flashes, but when it comes down to it, he's not all that good of a quarterback. My litmus test for that is...is there another team in the NFL who would trade their starter for Kordell straight up? I can't see anyone (except maybe Cincinnati, but who wouldn't they say yes to?) that would. Stewart just isn't a great NFL quarterback. Sure, he went to the Pro Bowl last year, but in the last few games of the season and the playoffs he was horrendous. C'mon...that's where you make your name and his name isn't worth diddley right now.

Stewart wouldn't even be i the playoffs last year if the Steelers sucked. I think he threw 14 TD's and 11 picks, those ain't pro bowl numbers.

I really like and prefer Maddox over Stewart. Maddox did an excellent job playing in the XFL. Was MVP. I know that's really nothing to brag about, but he won it nevertheless.
