Default ESPN to launch new college sports channel

Quote:
ESPN will launch a new multimedia college sports initiative in March 2005 that includes a new 24-hour television network and content from ESPN.com and ESPN The Magazine.

ESPNU will also include information from ESPN Radio, ESPN Mobile (wireless) and ESPN Broadband, George Bodenheimer, the president of ESPN and ABC Sports, said in making the announcement Tuesday.

I guess another channel dedicated to sports can't hurt. Sounds interesting.

If anything they need to launch an all poker channel so they could actually, you know, show sports on ESPN...

I liked it better when poker was on the Travel Channel. I'd sooner watch Army play SMU than poker. I guess to watch actual sports I need a dish and a couple hundred bucks since ESPN in now much more interested in showing us middle aged men playing cards than a football game.

Have to wonder how much of this is in response to Fox Sports recently converting their regional digital network stations from a general sports (and usually extreme and non-sports sports) family of networks to Fox College Sports Atlantic/Central/Pacific.

I can't explain how enthused I was to find last Tuesday on these channels:
1. Wall-to-wall coach press conferences and postgame shows
2. The Rich Rodriguez press conference in particular
3. The WVU Game Reduced, WVU's game shrunk down to one hour.
The best part? WVU is on Tuesdays. I'm off on Tuesdays this year, so... I'll be parked in front of FCSA every Tuesday at 2p every week all season long.

Dave

I'm sure they had you in mind Dave when they made those decisions on the press conferences...LOL. Just joshin' ya.

But agreed, I can't get enough of press conferences from whoever. You never know when someone is going to go berzerk, or at the very least, get to hear something unusual.
