Default How bad does the Eastern Conference suck?

Here is the scenario. One team from the East is put into the West this year with a Western Conference schedule. Is there a team or teams from the East that could take this challenge and make the playoffs in the West? If a team or teams could, which place would then end up at? 8th? 7th?

Could NJ make it?

I'm not sure any of those teams could take that challenge and make the playoffs, except maybe NJ who would probably end up near the bottom of the Conference.

Everyone knows the Eastern Conference doesn't even have a prayer for at least 5 years.

I think Indiana, Detroit, and New Orleans would have decent chances at getting into the playoffs in the West, and I could see them getting anywhere from a #6 seed to a #8 seed. Not saying all of those teams would make it if they were in the West, but all of them have the potential to do so.

I don't think New Jersey would make it this season in the West, and the East does look to be down for a while, but a few deals here and there might change the complexion of the league.

#6 to a # 8???

Detroit could and would get a #3 or #4 at least. Solid starting line and they have Brown as coach. Not to mention their big draft pick is riding pine.....

Indiana, New Orleans, and Detroit (maybe NJ, but not right now) would all make the playoffs in the West. Unfortunately, the East loses one of its better teams, N.O., to the West and gets an expansion team next year. The bad gets worse!

Last week, Santonio would have been #2 seed in the east.
They wouldn't have even made the playoffs in the west. Same with Minnesota. And Memphis. PATHETIC!!!!

You guys are over-estimating the schedules. In the East, ANYBODY can win. New Jersey, Philadelphia, Indiana, New Orleans, Toronto, Detroit and a number of other teams are all winning and losing to each other. Meanwhile, in the West, the big boys pound the smaller teams. Simply put, the bottom of the East is better than the bottom of the West.

I have no doubt that a good Eastern Conference team can make it in the West. Any of the teams I just mentioned can make it in the West and host the first round game.

We could pick twelve guys from this message board and make a push for the playoffs in the Eastern Conference.

I wonder what can be more boring than watching the Heat play the Magic.

But if you try and suggest to David Stern that maybe the NBA should do what the NHL did in the late '70s and early '80s - namely, determine the playoff teams and seed them strictly by record, regardless of conference - you'll be shouted down in a New York minute.

I think the East is looking worse than it actually is; the best records, of course, are in the West; Sacramento, for example, has played 21 of 34 games in the West, going 14-7. They're 25-9 overall, so that means they're 11-2 in the East, right?

Indiana is 28-10, and actually has a superior winning percentage than Sacramento's. Indiana has played 25 games in the East, going 19-6. That means they're 11-4 in the West. I wouldn't call that bad, considering it's almost identical to Sacramento's crossover record. Indiana could make it in the West in my opinion.

I don't think Indiana looks too bad right now. In fact, I think if they played in the Finals against one of the big dogs from the West they would give them an decent series.

I think that people are tending too overexaggerate the East woes because of the bad records in the Atlantic. I do believe with time the records will be at least "decent" playoff records by the end of the season.

The West just has extremely strong teams this season. San Antonio, LA Lakers, Minnesota, Dallas, Sacremento..all these teams are pretty tough for anyone to beat.

Still, it is all checks and balances...it all evens out in the end. In a few seasons, we may well be talking about the East.

Remember the dominant runs from Detroit and Chicago in the late 80s and 90s.
