Thumbs down Fan Violence at 49ers-Raiders Game: Reaction and Overreaction

In the wake of the violence that took place at last Saturday's preseason game between the 49ers and Raiders at Candlestick Park, the annual "Battle of the Bay" will no longer take place, at least for the time being.

To me at least, this decision is wrong! It is a scaredy-cat solution - a total overreaction.

Instead, the perpetrators of the two most serious incidents - one involving a 26-year-old victim knocked unconscious in a bathroom, the other a 24-year-old who was shot four times - need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of law; and in both of these cases, that means under Section 217 of the California Penal Code: Attempted murder, punishable by up to life in prison.

But in notoriously far-left San Francisco, there is not a chance that this will occur - and that's the problem, not the existence of the game.
