It is. Jerry cannot handle being the number three or four reciever. I think he was willing to take a back seat to Jerry Porter and be the number two guy. But, he obviously thinks he can still be a quality starter somewhere else in the league.

Who knows - maybe my joke about Rice being traded to the Buccaneers for Brad Johnson won't turn out to be a joke after all! With the Bucs signing QB Jason Garrett on Wednesday, you can safely say that Johnson will be dealt before next Tuesday's trading deadline.

But even more interesting than a Johnson-for-Rice swap would be a three-way deal among the Bucs, Bears and Eagles that would send Johnson to Chicago (where he beats Jonathan Quinn out for the starting job the moment he drives through the front gate) and running back Anthony Thomas to Philadelphia, with the Eagles giving Tampa Bay a mid-to-low-round draft pick.

While there have been no stories out there to suggest that anything like this is in the works, it would be a logical solution to the present issues all three teams have - the Bucs would like to at least get something for Johnson, the Bears need QB help desperately, and the Eagles need insurance in case notoriously fragile RB Brian Westbrook gets injured again.

I saw a snippet in USA Today earlier in the week that quoted Lovie Smith as saying he intended on playing Thomas more and getting him more involved in the offense.

Of course Norv says the team has no intentions on moving Rice either.

Mort reported earlier tonight that a deal is imminent with the Seahawks that would send Rice to Seattle for a conditional pick.

Good. The Seahawks need a receiver who can catch the friggin' ball.

Koren Robinson must have had four drops yesterday against the Pats. And they all hurt. Just painful drops. Drops that cost his team. Ugh.

Almost made me feel sorry for the 'Hawks. Then, I remembered that I was rooting for the Pats.

Well, they are going to need him because Mort also said that Robinson will be suspended this week for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

A conditional 7th round pick. My how the mighty have fallen. At any rate, Rice is washed up. Seattle will appreciate his presence, but I can't see him being a big factor on the field this year.

Seattle got him for nothing. Everyone once in awhile you'll hit the jackpot with a 7th rounder but the majority of the time they just end up as practice squad scrubs or extra bodies for camp. Jerry Rice is still better than anything Seattle would get in the draft even if he is just a shadow of his former self.
