Default Rice on the Block?

ESPN is reporting that Jerry Rice may be traded before the NFL trading deadline next week. His name popped up in connection with the Detroit Lions. Should be interesting to see if he is moved and where he may end up.

Why would he want to start over somewhere else? I wish he would retire rather than bouncing around the league as a second or third option.

I don't know I asked myself the same question when Emmitt signed with Arizona a year and a half ago.

I've got the perfect solution - the Raiders should trade Rice to the Buccaneers for Brad Johnson!

I agree... why let your legend deteriorate like that?

Speaking as a Raider fan.

He is done..........he is no longer a factor on the field, BUT its his life and how he chooses to end his legendary career, has to be up to him.

It is extremely hard to get the game 'out' of your system. You can never take away what he has already accomplished.

Hmmm... I could see him as a starter in Baltimore. Or Tampa.
He'd be the third guy (tho maybe the #2) in Detroit.
And have him tutor the great-looking RoyWilliams... AND the looks good when healthy Charles Rogers... oy.

He would be a factor if they would ever throw to him. But Kerry Collins is more interested in fumbling or throwing an INT.

No doubt. What a disappointment Collins has been. I liked the Raiders much more once he became the starter-by-default, till he started playing. Oops.

One must remember, however, that Collins' back-to-back turnover-fests the past two weeks have come on the road, where Oakland has now lost 12 in a row; things may be different this week with the Raiders at home.

Sorry Purple,

But as a Raider fan, thus someone who has watched everyone of there games this year..........

He can no longer create any seperation in bumps neither physically or with speed, he is no longer(as everyone knows) a threat to stretch the field, does not posses the physical stature to shield or make over the top cathces on 9 routes, that was never his game anyway and the Raiders have been seeing a steady diet of man.

During the Texans game, the game after his streak was broke, they had him isolated the entire game on camera, repeatedly showing what was going on during the play, with Rice replays............he was never open and was single convered the entire day.

Collins has been bad, but Jerry hasnt been open either.

I do agree he would be a great mentor to someone such as a Roy Williams, etc...........but if he is more then your #3, your WR corps are going to be hurting, because he no longer draws any special attention from any other part of the D when he is on the field.

Fight On!

Meanwhile, the more I read, the more I think this is Jerry's idea, not so much the idea of the organization...
