Default Jamal Lewis gets a 3-year deal from the Brownies...

Jamal Lewis has signed a 3-year contract with the Cleveland Browns. Terms weren’t available at present time.

He’s 28 and had a great year last year. Makes sense to me. Now GM Phil Savage can turn his attention to QB Derek Anderson who is a restricted free agent.

Good move to secure Lewis? What should Savage do with Anderson considering Brady Quinn is waiting in the wings?

I think it's a good sign. That team had a great Cinderella type season last year, and Lewis was certainly a big part of their success. I think it's possible they will be a one-year-wonder, but still, to show the team and fans that they will reward the offensive success of last year is probably good for morale all around.

As far as Anderson, I think they would do well to keep him for at least 1 more year if they can, but since I don't know how they feel about Quinn's play in practice, I don't know what kind of confidence they have. I felt San Diego should have kept Brees, and this seems like a similar situation. Like the SD deal, money may end up deciding if Anderson stays or goes. Either him asking for too much, or management not wanting Quinn to be sitting on the bench with whatever they are paying him.

Seeing as there currently is no plan B on the roster and he really seemed to find his mojo down the stretch last year this seems like a good move. Besides it is not as though they won't cut him loose next spring if he goes in the tank again.
