Yeah, I thought it was great. I'm not a huge fan of musicals, but if it's the Beatles, I can take it.

I thought they did a really good job.

Across the Universe was one of those we never got around to seeing but have always intended to. If it is a musical my fiancee is all about seeing it.

I'm in the same boat doub. My lady loves musicals. Across the Universe made her into a Beatles fan (about time!).

It's a great one to see with your lady - good tunes, love story, social commentary, and some historical fiction.

It really is put together quite well.

We both like the Beatles and want to see it.

So far I have been made to sit through Dreamgirls, Hairspray, and Sweeney Todd. I liked Dreamgirls a lot, but I think that is because I like the old Motown style of music that was featured in the movie and the acting in it was very well done.

Hairspray was tolerable but did not like it as much. Same with Sweeney Todd.

She wanted to go see Mamma Mia but the fervor on that has died down a bit since I told her it was only getting middle of the road reviews.

I really want to see Pineapple Express. Fortunately my fiancee is a fan of Judd Apatow and his cronies' work so it probably will not be tough to get her to go see it.

I am also interested in seeing how Tropical Thunder fares as well.

Yeah, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the two who wrote Superbad, wrote the screenplay for Pineapple Express so it should be pretty good.

I know I'm late as hell to this thread, but I did see Drk Night opening night... that was awesome. Heath Ledger was unbelievable as the joker. Some scenes were so intense with him and the way the music was played. All I kept thinking was, if I was on acid I would have lost my mind!!!

I saw Stepbrothers yesterday and laughed my butt off... I recommend it if you are looking for a good quick laugh.

Step Brothers was absolutely hilarious. It was Will Farrell at his best, and he was a lot funnier in this than he was in Talladega or Anchorman.

Hmmm...I personally thought Step Brothers was terrible, and I went into it with barely any expectations. I knew it wasn't going to be a good movie. I just wanted to laugh, but it only suceeded in doing that about three times--all within the first half-hour of the movie. All in all I thought it was a movie with one joke (older guys who act like children) that got stale fast.

Dark Knight was incredible. Chris Nolan can do no wrong it seems.

I'm going to see Pineapple Express when it opens, but I'm not sure what to expect. The trailer looks relatively funny, but I'm getting a little tired of the Apatow schtick. And on top of that I'm expecting a movie filled with weed jokes, and I don't smoke so it may not be as funny to me as it is to some here who just had a long thread on the glories of mind altering drugs.

As far as older movies go, I've been picking up all the Criterion Collection DVDs I can find at the local library lately. I have to recommend Metropolitan (amazing, funny, endearing movie), and Brief Encounter if any of you ever come across them.

This movie was so messed up that it was funny and, unlike most of Ferrell's movies, I never got the impression that he was trying too hard to be funny, which was the feeling I got with movies such as Anchorman.

The white dog crap, the fight scene at the end, the singing at the end, the music that played when Ferrell looked at the drums to show the intense urge he got to play the drums: it all added up to be completely random which is what I thought made it hilarious.

I'll agree that Ferrell getting kicked in the balls or making poop jokes isn't particularly funny in any of his movies, but the script for this movie was hilarious-- the hilarity was much more in the subtleties of how messed up the movie is than it is in Will Ferrell yelling or trying too hard.

Agree.... the characters were so funy. They were the biggest losers. Some of my favorite quotes:

Will Ferrell: (to his mom) Dale better not get in my face or I'll f_ck him up!

Then when the parents come in and turn off the TV and take away TV priveledges for a week.

Dale: Its shark week!
Will Ferrell: Are you f_cking high!!!

That was classic....

Last movie was Wall-E for me. It was okay, not as strong has Pixar's other titles. I'm just disappointed with Pixar's Latest releases. The rat one was okay and Wall-E was just as the same.

How in the sam hell can you discuss movies without Toby? I'm sorry, but I can't continue this.

Toby, come home. This place needs you.
