Default Henderson sets Run Record.

Congratulations to Rickey Henderson, who set a new run record last night. He homered off Luke Prokopec, sliding into home to score his 2,246th run and pass Ty Cobb as the all-time runs leader. He's had an amazing career.

I think you are right, Nick. He needs 2 or 3 and that's all. Hopefully he can get that and Bonds can hit that ONE HR..

Congrats to him. I also heard him say he will be back next season because "take the worst outfielder on any MLB team and he can play better than him". So he's basically saying he can still beat players out, so he wants to continue playing.

Rickey has said that his record is more a factor of longevity. He is correct, of course. In order to score 2246 runs, a player must play for a long time, but he must also play at a very high level of skill.
Alex Rodriguez, no slouch himself, has scored 132 runs this season. At this rate he'll have to play over 17 years to match Rickey's record. This is why other great players, like Williams, DiMaggio, Ruth, Rose, Mantle, etc didn't match Cobb's record. It took someone of Rickey's stature to pass it.
He deserves to be in the HOF and will make it soon.

Congrats to Rickey!

I heard tonight on Baseball Tonight that Rickey broke the record in less games than it took Ty Cobb to set it!

It still takes a long time. What a great accomplishment for Rickey.
