Why the Tigers I ask.

They won't win in the next four years.

Not true! They will only lose 109 games this year, instead of 119. That'll be a 10 win improvement!

Come on Pudge, Chicago is so much better, But I would rather see him in Detroit where they will do nothing rather than in NY, or St. Louis, or Houston.

I just don't see any point to wasting your career with a horrible team just for money.

I think I would take a lesser amount to play with a winning team.
And when you are fresh off a WS title, why leave. Just take what pay you get and go for another WS.

Am I right on this, wouldn't you all do the same?

Just when you think a guy gets his prioraties in line...........man, go to Chicago. Take that team to the Series, and they will put a statue of you next to MJ's. Make you a god. Hell, even Baltimore. Anywhere but freaking Detroit.

Well, at least he can buy a new Escalade and drive around Motown, even if he is losing over a 100 games this year.

Well, no one believed that Florida would win a world series before last season started. But Detroit would be way more of a stretch to get there. The Cubs do seem the perfect fit for him to get back to the big show. But $10 million a year seems to be pretty much his asking price wherever and whoever he spoke to.

Marc's right, this proves Pudge is only in it for one thing, the mula. I won't be rooting for him anymore, that's for sure.

At least Florida had the parts in place with good talent in the minors and an awesome young staff for a run last year. They made the right moves. They weren't that far of a stretch to make it to the playoffs. World champions, maybe.

But the Tigers have nothing. The pitching staff made one "huge" addition, Jason Johnson. Fernando Vina, Carlos Guillen and Rondell White won't help the Tigers make it to the promised land either. This offense won't be nearly as bad as last year, but it won't be in the top half of the league either...

Plus there's no help in the minors. Better hope people like Eric Munson bat over .230 this year.

As long as this deal has been on the table, I have to wonder why it hasn't been made yet. Maybe Boras is looking for something better from a team that is a contender. Were I the Cubs, I'd offer 3 years at about $9M per year for him, with an option year for a similar amount. Perhaps, the deal could have incentives to make it bigger as well.
The Tigers' brass is getting tired of Boras' nonsense and I can't blame them. If he isn't signed this week, I would say it's likely he'll end up with the Cubs or back with the Marlins (both have offered less than the Tigers did).

I guess I'm a bit behind. Sorry.
I can't really see the reason for Pudge to sign with the Tigers, but they appear to want to improve their team.
Lets look at the AL Central teams.
The Twins (my team) have made several deals to improve their team -- signing Shannon Stewart, trading some of their mid-priced players for younger, possibly more talented players.
The White Sox seem to be trying to find their place in the division. They haven't picked up players to fill their needs. Payton was available to fill their CF void and Ponson was available to take Colon's spot in their rotation. Both were relatively inexpensive.
The Royals have improved their team a lot, on paper. Juan Gone and Santiago will stabilize their lineup, but they still have holes in their pitching staff, both in the rotation and in the bullpen.
The Indians appear to be standing pat with their team, but that isn't a bad thing. They have some young talent that just needs a chance to grow.
The Royals and Twins should have a dog-fight for the division title and the Indians, Sox and Tigers will offer some competition for them, but not as much as they think they will.

come on. the tigers have won more titles than the chicago teams put together. and i guarantee the next title won by any of these teams will be won by the titles. it may not be in the next four years but when it happens it will be by the tigers.
