Default Red Soxs

It looks as though the BoSoxs will Sign Pavano
Is it possible that they also re sign Lowe and Pedro and with already having Shilling have the top pitching staff next year??? If The Yanks dont get Randy Johnson and a couple of teh top pitchers that are Fa' and the Red Soxs boost up their pitching staff it wont loook good next year.

Well, Pedro and Pavano are probably the top two free agent starters on the market this year. This off season is pretty thin in terms of top of the rotation starters. There are some names out there, but a lot of them are coming off shaky seasons or are to the point where next season could be their last.

However, my guess is that if Pavano and Pedro sign with Boston Lowe will be elsewhere next season.

If the Sox sign Pavano, and retain Pedro and Lowe, they will have a very formidable team -- again. The Yankees will be fortunate to keep pace with them next season.
I would agree that Derek Lowe is likely to be pitching for another team next season.

Even though Lowe pitched fabulously in the playoffs, he was up and down during the regular season. He's been that way for a while; one year he was lights-out as a reliever, the next he couldn't shut anybody down. I think the Sox will probably try to find someone more consistent.

A team owned by George Steinbrenner will not make the same mistake twice. If the Sox re-sign Pedro and sign Pavano, look for George to sell the farm and get Johnson.

From everything I have heard and read Lowe has no real desire to stay in Boston anyway. Supposedly he does not like playing for Francona. The main reason for Lowe's inconsistencies is the Sox desire to stack the lineup with stud hitters and disregard defense. Lowe is a sinkerball/groundball pitcher and needs a good defense behind him to be successful. He does not strike a lot of guys out and needs guys he can count on behind him to field the ball.

I can't find the article anymore, but I remember reading somewhere that Lowe did much better after the Garciaparra trade. For once, the Sox gave up hitting (Nomar) for defense (Cabrera, Mientkiewicz) and speed (Roberts).

Of course Lowe did better after the Nomar trade. Nomar never was a great defensive SS and Lowe is a "ground-ball" sort of pitcher. Nomar was an upgrade in Chicago, however.

The Yankees and Red Sox will be in a bidding war to get Pavano. Hopefully the Yankees will get him.
