Me second. Actually, I'd avail myself to any product testing or prototypes your company has lying around. Yes I KNOW you haven't started yet! No excuse!

Don't know much about Blackberries except businessmen use them to organize things. I'm not at that stage yet. Aren't they just like PDAs? PDAs have a shrinking market, IMO, and are getting replaced by cell phones and MP3 players that do the same things. There's a reason Sony just dropped out of the market and Palm is in the dumpster. I don't see their use to normal people, but correct me if I'm wrong. I'm no expert.

Blackberries are PDAs with email and cell phone capabilities. They are very popular in the business world these days due to the ability to sync up with most mail servers and the ability to forward one's corporate email to the wireless blackberry device. So, when you are on the road you can read your emails without having to crack open a laptop.

Not Mac compatable, huh? Didn't think so.

P.S. doublee: it looks like I might be moving to Charlotte in your home state of North Carolina. How far is Raleigh from Charlotte and what do you think of it? I need opinions of people actually living in that state, it always helps.

Marc, Here's the Blackberry 7100 series. Bit more than a PDA, pager or emailer, eh?

I hated the blackberry we had at my last job, but that was --good god-- almost five years ago.
Motorola had better products then.

Haven't seen either lately. The 7100 series does look pretty sweet, though.

Dave

Well, seeing as it is marketed in large part to the business sector which is heavily PC-centric there probably is not a huge market for an Apple version at this time.

As for Charlotte it is about three hours or so, depending on traffic, from Raleigh. I honestly cannot say I have spent much time in Charlotte. I have driven through a few times but never spent a wealth of time there. From what I understand though it is a fairly nice area to live in not too terribly different from the RDU area. Oh, and for the record NC is not my home state PA is, I have only been here for about 8 years now.

Marc, it's not "just" a PDA. It's not "just" a cellphone. It's not "just" anything, that's why it's essential for businessmen now and is an up-and-up product. They did go thru a downtime a while back but most new products hit a high when they come out, then when people realize they aren't everything they claim, they go for a downward spiral a bit during further development, then sales skyrocket again, but 100x greater... I think that's what happened to iPod.

And who said they aren't compatible with Macs? I did a google search and with the purchase of a $30 program you can sync a Blackberry with a Mac.

And Simon, Kevin... you just have to go in line. Right now the people waiting in line for a Blackberry are, in order:

1. Me
2. Cousin-in-law
3. Cousin
4. Uncle
5. Parents
6. Brother
8. High School friend
9. High School friend's boss
10. University friend 1
11. Grade 8 teacher
12. University friend 2
13. University friend 3
14. University friend 4
15. University friend 5
16. Simon
17. Kevin

For now, all I can do is show you these pictures of RIM/blackberry headquarters: http://lmanchur.com/album/2005.02.22...0headquarters/

I wonder if PDAs will phase out... I mean cell phones are gaining more and more abilities and laptops are getting cheaper.. I think the two may expand up and down respectively to nudge PDAs out of the market.

alright you're 17.

I talked to a previous RIM intern from Western and he said they give you a crappy one that can just do e-mail for the first few months. He also was one of the first to see the new 7100 series Blackberrys and wrote automated test scripts for them in early development. I can't wait to see the next models before all of ya's!

Well, I stand corrected on these. I'm sure I will have one eventually, but I have no use for it currently as mainly a student.
