Default And the News is Just Getting Better for the Mets

Pedro is going to have shoulder surgery now, on top of his injured leg.

I was pretty sure this would happen. He'll miss a significant amount of time again next season due to health problems, and get paid handsomely for it.

Trachsel going home is really bad news for them. Who do they have left that can start games? Glavine, Maine, ElDuque, ?????

I don't think the old Mets will be going far in the postseason in 2006.

Sounds like Olive Perez may make an appearance which is a scary thought as he couldn't get anyone out this year.

I said when it went down that Minaya was a fool for giving Pedro a four year deal and it is coming to fruition a bit early.

How smart does Theo look now for not caving to Pedro's demand for a guaranteed four year deal? I seem to remember the Sox thought Pedro had two, maybe three, quality years left in him.

You are dead on with that one. The Sox were well aware of his injuries / how much he had left in his arm.

Yeah, I remember they were willing to give Pedro a four year deal but they wanted the last year of it to be an option as opposed to guaranteed.

It gets even better for the Mets. Now El Duque is dinged up and may not be able to start tomorrow night which leaves Glavine as the only starter with significant postseason experience for the Mets and he has not exactly have a sterling postseason resume.

This news will not please the Mets fans out there at all. They got all hyped up when their team won a division title for the first time in nearly 20 years and now they have lost their 2 best post-season starters. Aaron Heilman will most likely be pressed into service as a starter and that will weaken their bullpen considerably.

The sad part is they had that division locked up before the allstar break! Maybe they could of rested Pedro better... but not likely. And the El Duque thing is just a freak accident??? What happned to that team?
Then again, all this is said when they haven't even played a post season game yet... we'll see.

Apparently, John Maine will start game 1 today for the Mets. This is a lot of pressure to put on a kid like him. He's got great stuff, but this pressure will not help his focus. He allowed 69 hits and 33 walks in 90 innings this season, so he is really still an unknown commodity.

He's matched up aganst D-Lowe. A proven post season winner.

I don't know that they could have or should have handled Pedro any differently. He went on the DL after the break and was off and on for the rest of the season. They needed to get him some innings before the postseason to get his legs back under him.

John Maine pitched pretty well today and the Mets came away with a win.
