With no games being played it looks as though the New York Rangers will be having a better seaon this year then they did last year.

Funny, funny...

At least the Rangers have prospects and are building towards the future. New Jersey is an aging team with few, if any, prospects. Enjoy the present because the Devils' future is grim, not only from an on ice stand point but off it as well. Better hope that Newark arena deal pulls through with the Nets headed to Brooklyn.

The Rangers have been building towards the futre since their last stanley cup.. They havent made the playoffs in 9 years. So that means since the last time the Rangers won the cup the Devils won it lets see????? 3 times. And the Rangers have i believe 3 cups total and they have been around since when??? a really long time. The Devils have 3 cups and came to NJ in the 80s. Yea you r right Ranges are a better team the the Devils.

Signing aging players and self-absorbed stars isn't "building towards the future". Sather made a commitment to the future when he dealt Leetch, Nedved, Kovalev and Rucinsky for some quality prospects. Guys like Jozef Balej, Maxim Kondratiev and Martin Grenier will be difference makers once the NHL resumes. Also, aside from the acquired prospects, the Rangers have some solid prospects from previous drafts. Fedor Tyutin and Jed Ortmeyer have already had time in the NHL and played well. They're just honing their skills in the AHL this season. Other future difference makers include Dominic Moore, Chad Wiseman, Thomas Pock, Hugh Jessiman, Al Montoya and Garth Murray.

The Devils have a run or two left in them. They don't have the prospects or the money to recover once the championship core is gone. Or perhaps it already is. Philly owned the Devils in the play offs last season.

They did you are right but ... hey at least we made it. Im sorry man I had to say that. The Devils didnt play their A game against Philly. They didnt have thier leader Scott Stevens and they werent playin together. They picked up some great Defnsemen who stepped up when Daneko retired and when stvens got hurt. ALso Jaime Langenbrunner was hurt for a while.

Essentially your statement sums up this- the Devils have no depth. Championship teams have the ability to recover from their star's shortcomings or injuries. Did the Patriots' fall apart when sought-after free agent linebacker Rosevelt Colvin was lost to injury early last season? No, they players to step up in his absence and they won the Super Bowl.

The Rangers. I would imagine most of the Devils core is playing somewhere in Europe. The Rangers future core are a short plane ride away in Hartford.

If you're talking about full rosters, the Devils. I'm not arguing that the Devils aren't the better team right now, but the future of the Rangers is much brighter than that of the Devils.

Rangers fans are like Red Sox fans, we didn't win a Stanley Cup for 54 years. Hopefully the being god awful for the next decade will follow the Sox as well.

The Rangers do look like a team good for the future, but for right now the team isn't that very good. New Jersey, on the other hand, has the best goaltender on the planet in Martin Brodeur. As long as he's in the pipes the Devils will be competitive in years to come.

Exactly Martin Broudeur is the greatest goalie on the planet and one of the best ever. He has been the focal point to this teams sucess from 95 all the way to now and in the future. O yea the defense was always really good so that helped.

You also cannot deny the amazing job New Jersey's scouting staff has done, and they're ability to find great players. Everybody in the organization, including Lou "Insane" Lamirello, has just done a great job putting together solid teams.

At least the Rangers are on the right path, like Alex said, looking towards the future and stocking up on picks last season. I've heard wild rumours that Mark Messier wouldn't mind a front office job with the organization. Messier is a guy who's hung around forever, wheather he did it for individual stats or not remains to be seen, but I think he'd still be good for the organization in some capacity.
