Default Joe Girardi is swiming w/ the fishes, er... Marlins

after interviewing twice for D-Rays job and thinking about waiting out for the Cubs job former Yankee catcher and bench coach Joe Girardi is headed south to take over manger duties of the Florida Marlins.

great move by the Marlins, it's just too bad they didn't eject Jack McKeon midseason to maybe get into the plays. he cost them this season and any chance of signing AJ Burrett who is headed into free agency.

Girardi could be the answer for the Marlins, a team that is already complete, to finally overtake the Braves in win the NL East.

Girardi gets a good team to work with. He was a hard-nosed player that never gave up on a play until the out was made. If he can instill that attitude into his players, they'll have something.
I agree about Burnett leaving, but there are other arms in the system that might be able to pick up the slack and continue the team on its winning ways.
Good move for both parties.

Isn't any one worried about his lack of coaching history?. Bob Brenly came out of the booth and won a world series, so I guess with one year as bench coach of the Yanks, puts him slightly ahead of Bob.

Girardi has been regarded as a top managing prospect for some time. I'm not surprised at all to see him get the job. Hopefully he does well in Florida and maybe in a couple of years he will find his way back to the Bronx.

I don't know that Burnett was coming back to Florida anyway. He is likely to command considerably more on the open market than the Marlins would be willing to pay him given his considerable track record of not being able to stay healthy.

I'm sure Guillen's season helped generate all the Girardi interest. Baseball's full of copycats. Not to mention it's common to do the exact opposite of what didn't work (think Marlins, Tigers)
