Default Early MVP candidates

Ok...so who will be this year's MVP? I know, I know. 3 games in, isn't EVERYBODY still a candidate?

I think, if he picks up his scoring, Ben Wallace has a great shot. If he scores 12 a game, grabs 15 boards and 3-4 blocks...not to mention 2-3 steals and a couple assists, he'd have to be considered.

What do you think?

I also believe Garnett is due this year. But it's still too early now.

It will surely be someone from the West. Most likely whoever leads in scoring and I don't see Garnett being that person with Spree playing beside him. KG is fantastic but they would have to win the division to get serious looks and thats not easy with SA and Dallas in there.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Duncan gets it again. He seems to be the favorite among many sports writers and barring no injuries he should put up the same numbers if not better this year.

K.G. is a good pick because his team should be improved, and the MVP usually goes to the best player on one of the best teams.

I'll pick Tim Duncan, partially head and heart reasons. He's the man in SA and I think he'll certainly give it a decent shot this season. He starts the season a bit slow, but he'll start getting his numbers very soon.

My other pick would be Jason Kidd. Awesome start. Averaging 20.7 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds. He's in for a great season I think.

I'd like for Garnett to get it, but his chances will decrease with the addition of Sprewell and Cassell.

TMac, without Grant Hill, this guy can average 30 a game.
I think he has a very good chance.

Let me explain why Allen Iverson is the MVP in the NBA.

Now sure, you can always make a strong case for Tim Duncan. He's always fantastic and comes up huge for his team. But when you take him away from that Spurs lineup, they are still a pretty darn good team. I as well thought Garnett should have won last year. Minnesota was his team and he truly made them look good. This year? Different story, he'll still put up ridiculous numbers, but now he has Sam Cassell and Latrell Sprewell to help pick up the slack.

When you take away Allen Iverson from the Philadelphia 76ers that team is literally hopeless. For years now Iverson has carried this team, and led them to the NBA Finals three years ago. T-Mac is a good basketball player, but he's not a MVP type player. He doesn't take his team to new heights, and has proven to be a flop in the playoffs. The 76ers have consistently been up near the top of the Eastern standings, while the Magic always look to get in with the 7th or 8th seed. Not only that, but you'll find no tougher player in the NBA than Allen Iverson. He play's all the time and you'd have to kill him to keep him off the court.

Now that AI has Robinson to back him up, the Sixers should be in 2n or 3rd place. Iverson never really had a backuup scorer and his team was still successfull so the team should only get better since some of the load is off of his back. And AI also has some underrated teammates. Snow, Mckie. Now if they kept Theo Ratliff, they'd probably be on top of the standings. He'd be a great help to the Sixers right now.

I think Glenn Robinson is overrated. I really don't think he'll help that much. Someone tell me how he is any better than Keith Van Horn.

But I agree with Brian. AI is not only the heart n' soul of his team, he represents the whole NBA in that aspect. The man makes everyone on his team better. Clipps makes a good point about McKie and Snow. They're not great players or All-Stars by any means, but they are solid role players and mesh so well with Allen. I've been a fan since I really started to watch them in 2001, and I hope this year the Sixers come through.

Kevin Garnett, there is no doubt he's the MVP on his team. 82 games a year, 40 minutes a game, 20-25 points, 10-15 rebounds, 4-7 assists, 1-2 steals, 1-2 blocks. This shouldn't have been and wont be close.

Allen Iverson. 82 games, 43 MPG, 28 PPG, 6APG, 4SPG.

A lot closer than you think.
