Best Horse Racing Betting Events

Horse racing has managed to retain its hugely dedicated following over the last couple of decades and millions of bettors regularly wager on top-class festivals such as Royal Ascot, the Breeder's Cup, and the Arc de Triomphe. Having already analyzed the form and crunched the numbers, many punters are now starting to finalize their ante-post bets for some of 2020's standout events. We're going to take a look at three of the sport's most entertaining and competitive races taking place this calendar year, all over the world.

Kentucky Derby

Held annually in Louisville, the Kentucky Derby is one of the standout events of the spring racing season in the United States. This competitive Grade I contest remains the most attended thoroughbred event in North America, eclipsing both the Belmont Stakes and the Breeder's Cup. Despite the event being televised worldwide, attendances remain steady and the race rarely fails to attract a high-quality field.

In 2020, Tiz the Law is likely to go off as the favorite, having been victorious in two of his three stakes race appearances so far. He came out on top in the Holy Bull at the beginning of February and is proving very popular in the ante-post markets. Last year, Maximum Security was disqualified in controversial circumstances and although we aren't expecting the same level of drama this time around, it looks set to be another hugely absorbing mile and a quarter at Churchill Downs.

The Grand National

The historic Aintree race is one of the most stamina-sapping contests in the world and millions of fans are likely to be glued to the action once again at the beginning of April. Another unpredictable and thrilling four-miler awaits and history could be made if Tiger Roll is able to clinch his third successive victory in the race. Gordon Elliott's durable 10-year-old is the ante-post favorite in horse racing betting once again and looks set for a comeback run in the Boyne Hurdle in mid-February.

A 40-strong field will be aiming to prevent him from securing a hat-trick, with the likes of Walk in the Mill and last year's runner-up Magic of Light also proving popular in the betting. There have been 105 entries for the race with a number of steadfast competitors from both the UK and Ireland hoping to get the opportunity to test themselves over the iconic fences such as Becher's Brook and the Chair. Only 40 chasers will get the chance to take to the turf on April 4th, and another hugely absorbing and competitive affair appears to be on the cards.

Melbourne Cup

Australia's most famous annual thoroughbred race will take place at the beginning of November and yet another fascinating two-mile contest is almost guaranteed. Although the race has always attracted plenty of interest in the Southern Hemisphere, the Flemington event has exponentially increased in popularity in recent years with many European trainers bidding to earn a share of the substantial prize purse.

Cross Counter was the first British winner of the race in 2018 and a number of the UK's finest flat performers look set to head down under once again later this year. However, it's local trainer Chris Waller who tends to dominate at this track and his best hope in 2020 is Il Paradiso, who has been priced up as the early ante-post favorite.

Whether you're a seasoned race-goer or a fair-weather fan, there are always plenty of high-quality events on the horse racing calendar. There are ample betting opportunities throughout the year and with so many top-class events taking place throughout the spring and summer months, there's never been a better time to follow all of the action on the turf.
