Betting Sites Slash Odds on Raptors

The NBA playoffs are underway and it hasn't taken long for the Toronto Raptors to impress basketball bettors. Having taken a 2-0 series lead over the Brooklyn Nets, the reigning champions are as short as +650 with some sportsbooks to pull off a stunning repeat.

Fred VanVleet has 54 points across the first two games against the Nets, while Pascal Siakam and Kyle Lowry also continue to impress as Toronto looks like one of the most well-rounded teams in the league.

When Kawhi Leonard left following his NBA Finals MVP Award win, which helped the Raptors earn their first chip in 2019, it looked as though a rebuild beckoned for Nick Nurse and the odds on a repeat were as big as +5000 with some sportsbooks.

Even a month ago, you could get +2300 on the Raptors going back-to-back, but now that price has been cut significantly and Canada's only NBA franchise is now the fourth-favorite to win the title.

One team whose odds have gone in the other direction is the Los Angeles Lakers. After their game one loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, many of the best sportsbooks in Canada for NBA betting have pushed their NBA championship odds out to +400, while some overseas bookies have gone as far as +500.

Fellow pre-season favorites, the Milwaukee Bucks, also suffered a setback with a surprise game one defeat at the hands of Orlando Magic, and while their odds have drifted slightly, they are still priced a couple of points shorter than the Lakers.

The Los Angeles Clippers have been jostling for position in the betting market with the Bucks and Lakers all season, but it is now Doc Rivers' team that leads the way at +250. Now priced at +120 for the Western Conference in places, the sportsbooks are clearly leaning towards the Clippers, and if the Raptors can make it out of the East, a reunion with Leonard could be on the cards.

In the Eastern Conference betting market, the Bucks are still odds-on to advance but there is a cluster of teams closing in behind them. Toronto's odds are +250, and the Boston Celtics are priced at +400. The 17-time NBA champions have a 2-0 lead over the Philadelphia 76ers, who will be without Ben Simmons for the remainder of what has been a disappointing campaign.

Miami Heat comes in next with a best price of +1000, and they will provide a stern test for Milwaukee should the Bucks make it past Orlando.

On 888sport, one of the top betting sites that players in Canada can register with, you can wager on the Finals MVP already, and two Toronto players are in the mix towards the top. Siakam is at +2000 and Lowry is just behind him at +2200. As the Raptors continue to improve, those odds may not last.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is the +260 favorite, with Kawhi Leonard next at +400 and LeBron James at +500. Damian Lillard's odds were cut from +6000 to +3000 after his heroics in game one against the Lakers.
