Bills the Team to Beat in AFC East

Many respected pundits have predicted that the winner of the 2022 Super Bowl is likely to come from the competitive AFC East division. The New England Patriots have been the dominant force since the turn of the century, but the landscape has changed in recent times.

The Buffalo Bills have topped the standings for the past two years and have been widely tipped to finally get their hands on the Super Bowl trophy this term.

Read on as we take a closer look at the four teams aiming to claim top spot in AFC East and assess their chances of reaching the Super Bowl.

Buffalo Bills

The Bills are currently rated as favorites by NFL odds site Betway to win the Super Bowl and they could be tough to stop as the season progresses.

Former NFL star Santonio Holmes recently picked the Bills to be amongst the main contenders and he knows what it takes to win the title. He achieved the feat with the Pittsburgh Steelers and believes the Bills have the talent to reach the NFL's championship decider. A narrow defeat in Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins demonstrates that the Bills are not unbeatable, but we fancy them to win the Super Bowl next February.

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins' defensive unit showed plenty of resilience to fend off the Bills to secure a memorable 21-19 victory last weekend. That result took the Dolphins to 3-0 for the season and highlighted why it would be foolish to dismiss their chances of winning the Super Bowl.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is one of the best in the league, although he does have a frustrating habit of picking up injuries. If the Dolphins can keep the 24-year-old fit, do not be surprised to see them progress to the playoffs for the first time since the 2016 season.

New England Patriots

The Patriots were the team to beat in the NFL when quarterback Tom Brady was in their lineup, but things have gone south since he left. They were demolished by the Bills in the wild card round last season and have made a sticky start to the current campaign.

An injury to Mac Jones has left the Patriots needing to make contingency plans at quarterback, and their playoff hopes could suffer as a result.

The Patriots missed out on the postseason two years ago — a similar fate may well await them this time around.

New York Jets

The New York Jets have not won the Super Bowl since 1968 and it would be a major surprise if they ended that barren run this season. The Jets have failed to progress to the playoffs since 2010 — a season where they narrowly lost the AFC Championship Game to the Steelers.

They came close to reaching the postseason in 2015 by posting a 10-6 record, but it has been a repeated tale of woe since then. Two defeats in their first three matches and a tricky upcoming fixture list suggest the Jets' playoff hopes will be over fairly quickly.
