Super Bowl LVII is creating history in a variety of different ways, not only will this be the first time that two brothers will line up on opposite sides of the field, but for the first time in Super Bowl history we will see two Black quarterbacks take the field.

Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts have been creating waves this season and without any shadow of a doubt have been the game's best two quarterbacks this season. Their appearance in this Sunday's showdown completes a journey that black quarterbacks have long been trying to achieve for decades.

The first ever black quarterback to start a game in Super Bowl era was Marlin Briscoe, who played five games for the 1968 Denver Broncos. Warren Moon then became the game's first ever black quarterback to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame after a long and successful career that lasted for 23 years. In 1988, Doug Williams became the first black quarterback to win a Super Bowl, when he helped lead the Washington Redskins to a victory over the Denver Broncos.

But never before has the world witnessed two nlack quarterbacks go toe-to-toe for the game's greatest prize.

Speaking ahead of the historic occasion, Mahomes was keen to play it cool, stating, "It's historic, so many people laid the foundation before us, and to be playing with a guy like Jalen, who I know is doing it the right way, it's going to be a special moment that I hope lives on forever."

Mahomes has been and done this before with this being his third Super Bowl appearance.

Drafted in 2017, Mahomes has become one of the game's best players and has arguably already done enough to land himself in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A winner and MVP of Super Bowl LIV, Mahomes also knows what it's like to lose in a Super Bowl, when back in 2020 the Chiefs would go onto lose to the Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Mahomes heads into this year's Super Bowl having led the NFL in both yards and touchdowns. A generational talent, if the Philadelphia Eagles are to have any success this, they simply have to stop Mahomes from doing what he does best.

Jalen Hurts road to this year's finale has seen him encounter a few more bumps in the road. Drafted in the second round by the Eagles back in 2020, this is Hurts second season as the fully-fledged starter. Last year, he took his team to the first round of the playoffs, but this year, it's been a completely different ball game.

Hurts has become one of the most poised and composed quarterbacks in the league and has been able to hurt opposing defenses with a combination of both his arms and legs. He has thrown for over 3,500 yards and thrown 22 touchdowns compared to throwing just 6 interceptions. On the ground, he has amassed 760 yards and always finds a way to keep opposing defenses honest.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's game and the achievement of two black quarterbacks taking the field, he exclaimed, "I think about all the rich history in this game, and to be part of such an historic event, historic moment, it's special."
