Top Championship Contenders in 2022-23

Winter is reserved for the three strongest leagues in the world in their respective sports. The season has begun a while ago in NFL, NBA, and NHL. The MLB season is over as Houston Astros became the World Series champions, while Los Angeles FC claimed their maiden MLS Cup trophy, thanks to a penalty-shootout victory over Philadelphia Union. Interestingly, Philadelphia also came short in the MLB season finale as the Phillies fell 4-2 at the hands of the Astros.

Nevertheless, let's get back to the three competitions whose campaigns are yet to finish. Can Philadelphia make another final in some other sport? Let's find out who are the top contenders for the championship titles in the NFL, NBA, and NHL at the moment.

Philly is in Super Bowl hunt in the NFL

Philadelphian teams did not have much joy in soccer and baseball, but their football team can make amends for the residents of this beautiful city. The Eagles have been fabulous in the regular season, going 11-1 in the opening 12 matches. They will certainly enter the playoffs as one of the main favorites to go all the way.

"If there is any team capable of hurting the Eagles' ambitions, it is Buffalo Bills," told us John Pentin, NFL expert at U.S. betting picks site BettingPicks4you. The Bills sit atop the AFC East standings with a 9-3 record. They did have some unexpected hiccups so far in the season, but if you take a look at the team's roster and depth on both ends of the ball, it is hard to deny Buffalo's chances of reaching the Super Bowl game.

Last, but not least, you can never underestimate the power and the strength of Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs may not have been at their very best so far in the regular season, but they always go big when it matters the most. The Chiefs will easily win the AFC West ahead of the struggling Chargers and Raiders. We can't wait to watch them in the playoffs.

The Celtics look impressive in the NBA

While there are only three genuine candidates for the NFL title, the list of potential contenders in the NBA championship is certainly somewhat longer. Golden State Warriors opened the season as the main favorites to defend the title but they have not quite been at their best in the first couple of months. You can never ignore a team that has the likes of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, while the likes of Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole, and Draymond Green are all capable of big things, as well.

That said, we do not have the Warriors inside the top three title contenders. The top of our list is reserved for Boston Celtics who look ruthless in the regular season. The Celtics began the 2022-23 campaign with a 20-5 record. They have the best offensive ratings in the league by a mile. Indeed, it is very hard to stop the likes of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, each of whom are playing at the MVP level right now.

If the Celtics can go out of the Eastern Conference, we believe they will win it all. However, they do have a significant problem in the East because Milwaukee Bucks are anything but a naïve opposition. Giannis Antetokounmpo has been a different beast since winning the Championship two years ago. He is cruising through the Eastern Conference with the Bucks despite missing his wingman Khris Middleton for most of the first half of the season through injury. We do rate Milwaukee's chances of going deep as well, especially with Middleton in the rotation.

As for the others, we have to mention the likes of Phoenix Suns who are always a menace in the West, especially when they play at their Footprint Center. The Clippers have an amazing rotation and they are capable of going all the way if Kawhi Leonard and Paul George stay healthy in the postseason.

It will also be interesting to see whether Brooklyn Nets, Denver Nuggets, and Dallas Mavericks can make significant playoffs runs on the back of their respective superstars, as well.

Boston has a strong weapon in the NHL

We have listed the Celtics as the main contenders for the NBA championship, but Boston have another big weapon in the strongest hockey league on the planet. Their Bruins got off to a sensational start to the season, winning 20 of the opening 24 matches in the NHL. Right winger David Pastrnak is enjoying the best campaign of his career. He had 17 goals and 18 assists in the first 24 games of the season. The Bruins have a lethal offensive line outside of Pastrnak, as well. It includes the likes of Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, David Krejci, Taylor Hall, and Jake DeBrusk. With such depth, you just can't ignore their chances.

Outside of Boston, we must take the reigning champions into serious consideration. Colorado Avalanche still have a star-studded lineup and they will definitely grow in form later on in the most important games. The team with Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and Cale Makar has to be treated with respect. Finally, our next personal favorites are New Jersey Devils, who got off to a fantastic start to the season and who could represent a potential threat to the Bruins' ambitions in the East.
